PC wont boot

    Hey,

I recently had to RMA my GTX 570 and my HDD (my OS is on my SSD still in the case).

They sent back a GTX 470 (FFS!!!). I fired it into the computer anyway (same slot as where the 570 was expecting it to just boot with vga and tell me incompatible drivers then planning on doing a driver reinstall) and when it tries to power on I get past the ASUS screen, the screen that detects my SSD and then I am presented with a black screen with a blinking _ in the top left forever.

I have tried all the usual F commands for bios, boot etc and none of them do anything.

I have also tried putting in my windows disk to try boot but it only gets as far as this blinking _ screen.

I opened the case back up and checked all my connections etc and everything is good.

    Any ideas?

I don't get this, are you using the GTX 470 they sent you? Or are you using a different GTX 570 that they resent after they sent you a GTX470?

If you are using the GTX 470 then send it back ASAP - why are you using it? If it's a new GTX 570 and you can't boot then maybe it's a faulty card...

Put the 470 in just to boot (or try to as it would seem).

Already contacted them them regarding the miss-shipment. Card they sent seems to be a refurbish anyway (dust in places) so I do not think they will notice or care I tried to boot with it.

Would putting the 470 into the same slot that the 570 was in (with 570 drivers still installed) cause this failure to even get to OS loading?

No, AFAIK the drivers are the same for GTX 470 & GTX 570... sounds like a dodgy card, not that you'll be keeping it anyway...

Yeah possibly. Just to confirm though, a screwed card would result in this type of boot problem?

It would be a bit odd if you could see the BIOS logo on booting then it just stuck there, you could try removing SATA cables and see if it seaches for a bootable device after the BIOS logo.

But if it just sits there with a blinking _ and the only thing that has changed is the video card then I think it's safe to assume it's a dodgy card.
