How to switch from buring oil to using hot water from stove?

Hi - this might seem like a really stupid question but we in a new build oil central heating with a stove & back boiler as well. when plumber put in stove & back boiler in order to stop 'overheating' of water he ran off the water to two small rads. anyway whenever we light stove the water gets hot & these 2 rads get hot. But how do we get other rads hot as well? If we turn on rads as normal it sounds as though the oil burner is firing up as usual. Is there another switch or something we need to turn on so all the rads heat up when we light stove?

Now before you ask the plumber SAID to me at the time he had connected the back boiler to all the rads (even though i thought it should only be connected to 5 or 6 as its not a massive boiler, he said it would be fine connected to them all but leaving out the underfloor)

Now am wondering was he just really lazy & not connect it to any of them except the 2 overflow ones or is there a switch somewhere or something we missing here?

And yes we're going to call him but just want to make sure not missing a trick here & it was nearly 8 mths ago he was here last. (only just starting lighting stove)

    Thanks

Hi:) What boiler stove have you got and what is the size of these two rads that heat up? Has the boiler stove got a seperate pump? There should be two pumps one for oil and one for stove. Any switch near the stove to control power to pump? Follow the wire from the pump and see where it goes. It will either go to a switch or wired to a pipe thermostat.

Some pictures would help of the stove heating pipework:)

hey thanks for responding. Well its a charnwood & we're working it out by trial & error. There is no switch but far as we rem its automatic ie oil should only be supplementing when stove hot. Could that be right? Like today we got the stove roasting hot (water was over 65 degrees) turned on one rad 'circuit which has 3 radiators on it & they heated up without burner comming on but then after 15 mins oil it sounded like the oil burner kicked in. How do we get the oil burner not to turn on & leave the stove to heat rads much as it can?

The 2 rads which heat up are just 2 small wall rads in 2 ensuite & i rem him specifically saying these always come on when u light the stove to ensure the hot water has 'somewhere to go'

sorry for the non plumber speak & the plumber we had tho he was good & knew his stuff used to confuse me every time i asked him a question!

Its very hard to diagnose without seeing your heating system. Make sure that the oil boiler room thermostat is switched to the low position or the heating oil boiler is all switched off.

Do you have a system link with a row of pumps and thermostats to control each zone? It could be that the warm water from the stove is triggering a pipe stat on the oil boiler pipework if the oil boiler is heating up from the stove?

Either way it needs a plumber in to look at it and alter if needed.

The 2 rads will be used as a heat sink in the case of power or pump failure. ie. These are always on and are on a gravity circuit.
There should be a pipe stat on the stove outlet which starts a pump when water in reaches temp.
in the instance you described it sounds as if pump started and after 15 minutes the stove had cooled somewhat and needed help to heat the additional rads.
As previous poster said you need to get someone in to look at system or else get original installer back and explain to him what way you see the system working. It may or may not be possible to achieve what you wamt but give him a chance to explain.

back again im sorry to annoy ye.

had decided on a boiler stove eventually and then plumber said I hadnt 3/4" piping where I needed it in the house so I would have to pump the hot water from the stove out to the shed to be circulated around the radiators by the central heating system.
So now I am back to choosing a simple room stove.

The fireplace has a nice arch in it and I wondered if anyone knew anything about the stove that seems to go with it . There doesnt seem to be a selection of stoves that fit , so I would be stuck with this model. Any one know anything about it ? I cant post a picture ( dont know how) but it looks exactly like this. There are a few websites but they all feature the same inset stove.
