Christmas ski packages

Quick question for those that may have done this before...

Planning to go skiing christmas week, now we don't mind if we fly out on Christmas Eve or the 26th of Dec but was just wondering what Christmas Day is like in ski resorts? I've never been outside Ireland on Christmas day and wonder what it's like? Are the runs open? What if accomodation is SC or B&B and there's no restaurants open?? Just trying to work out the practicalities before booking anything.

Just an aside, we're not big Christmas people, it doesn't have to be a big xmas dinner or party session!

    Any advice or info welcome.

I've never been away for Christmas myself, but I think you'd really be looking at a catered option. I'm very fond of Austria, and they do tend to have gala evenings in the hotels. Another option is France & staying in a chalet. Could be fabulous!

The atmosphere is generally good around xmas time with alot of activities on in most resorts however it is relatively early in the season and snow is not always a sure thing until january in my expreience. Most hotels usually host NYE parties or your tour operator usually organises a get together, I know DirectSki always arrange something good!

    Hope this helps

Allot of shops will close during Christmas day and restaurants open in the evening.

This year unless something changes rather dramatically in the 2nd week of Dec on it is going to be a lean Green christmas in the Alps.

Would book last minute if I was you this year

I've done Christmas a few times in Austria. As they celebrate on the 24th (ski lifts/shops close early), the 25th was just like any other day.

Nothing is booked at all, just keeping an eye on all the tour operators pages!
