    Hi there,
I have a 03 Alfa Romeo and the timing belt went, rendering it pretty much useless unless i put €1000 into it.
sick because I put €1700 into the car at a registered Alfa garage 3 months previous to that, and no he didnt tell me that my timing belt needed to be changed!!
question is, I have been offered 100 for scrappage, do you think this is all I can expect to get for this car?
    thanks in advance for advice

Need some more details!! What model? What mileage? Condition?

Possibly a 2nd hand engine here will make more sense. 200 for fitted motor and resale of circa 2500 if mileage/condition/model are good

strip it and put it all on ebay or donedeal it for parts and sell what you can off it , you'll still get €100 at the end of the day for the duff engine and the remains of the bosyshell etc.

An Alfa Romeo engine with a good crankshaft is still worth money even if the top end is busted.
There would be plenty of Alfa Romeos out there where the bottom end is gone from which you could take the top end for a cheap repair.

there should be a lot more than E100 in value in that car simply from selling parts (some of which are very easy to remove). and the bare shell alone could well get you 100 or close to it afterwards for weighing it in. I presume this 100 for "scrappage" (there's a difference between scrappage and scrap, though people have started saying they'll "sell it for scrappage" since the scrappage scheme was there, which was just an incentive to make people want to buy new cars) was offered by a dealer or mechanic? in which case they just want to rip you off and make money out of that car. as you can see there was already someone in this thread asking about parts from the car. even selling a couple of easy to remove bits should get you well past 100

I'd agree with Vectra, presumably the car is decent enough otherwise as you put €1700 into it, another grand invested seems the way to go. You'll sell it for the guts of a grand in two years time if it's still running ok.

Get a secondhand head and put it in. I wouldn't trust a secondhand four cylinder Alfa engine of unknown origin as a huge proportion of them were run low on oil.
