Google map coordinates

Hi,

I was hoping someone could help -
i have coordinates that i am trying to enter into into google maps - but it wont let me enter them , no matter how i put them in. the coordinates are :

E182556.786 N 296755.213

it jsuts says it cant find them.

Can anyone help??

Those numbers you have look funny though as there's only 360degrees

I still dont know what your numbers mean. They cant be degrees?

I can only guess that the numbers you have are:

E18º 25' 56.786" N29º 67' 55.213"

Gives a location somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. So that can't be right.

Doing a quick search tells me that E N map coordinates are for Britain. You'll probably need to convert them before searching.

well its not Libia ! Its west of Ireland!

i will try that conversion - thanks. I am a bit doubthful tho! the coordinates are definitly correct like! just need to figure out how to convert them.

Yeah.............that bit had me stumped. West of Ireland you say?

Could you not check some old OS maps or contact them?

EDIT actually you might be right. They could correspond to X and Y coordinated on this map.

When you move the cursor around check out the numbers changing on the bottom left.

they're six digits, same as yours but with a specific three after the decimal point.

Using the co-ords as northings and eastings, it would appear to be the corner of a wood, or some sort of field about 7km south of Boyle in Roscommon.

You can convert these coordinates using http://www.osi.ie/calculators/converter_index.asp , copy the coordinates from the original post into the "Irish Grid Co-ordinates" boxes and hit convert.

The coordinates for use in Google Maps will appear in the "ETRF89 GPS Co-ordinates" boxes. (Latitude/Longitude)

I just opened up Google maps in 1 tab, and the osi maps in another. Found the location on osi map and just cross referenced it to google maps using townlands and roads. To get the gps co-ords I just right clicked on the spot and choose directions from here. You should get the ci-ords in the search box.
