Clueless questions about funds sector

    Hi guys,

I'm currently finishing my barrister-at-law degree in the King's Inns and also have a pure law degree. I am interested in becoming a lawyer in the funds sector or perhaps in house for a large accountancy firm. The problem is that I have no business background at all.

Can any of you guys shed some light on where I should be looking? If I wanted to get involved in the funds sector, do I have to start at the bottom and actually train to become an accountant or are there any ways I can get in and start from the bottom on the legal side of things?

Any light shed on my options would be great!

if its the legal side you're interested in your best bet within Fund Accounting firms is to focus on Corporate Secretarial Roles, there are now a few Cayman and Bermudan legal firms based here offering Corp Sec and legal advise to firms, maples & calder and Iliad both have dublin offices

These are all the funds listed in the ISE: http://www.ise.ie/Investment-Funds/Individual-Fund-Data/

Have a look at the listing sponsors for each of the funds. You could also try googling the fund name for more info. All legal advisers to the fund will be listed around the third or fourth pages of the fund's annual report/financial statements. That should be enough to get you started on where to look.

Thanks for taking the time to reply guys.

Bamboozle, I cant find anything on Iliad, have they a website? They are not showing up on google...

Thanks for the list An Citeog, I had a look at the first few pages and applied for one programme so far, but I have to be honest, without a business background I am actually a bit clueless as to the role I was applying for! There were research and corporate finance graduate programmes that I applied for but I have no idea if they would have any use for someone with a pure law background.

Has anyone any more advice? Interested in hearing as much suggestions as possible!
