was working away on the macbook pro, had iphone plugged in charging, went to get up from desk, and as im about to step away, macbook pro goes crashing to the floor ( hard wood floor ) with a bang, and the lid slaps shut.
    feck...eek.gif sickening....

picked it up noticed that when screen is closed down, the lid is slightly out of alignment with the case, about 1 mm or so..

i ran verify disk etc and the disk is showing as ok, and mac is working fine, does the fact now that it was dropped invalidate the apple care cover that i have on it?

( i have it covered under all risks on the house insurance)..

seems like a common issue, https://discussions.apple.com/thread...art=0&tstart=0

    thanks

Of course your screen might get misaligned if you dropped it... ;)

Afaik breaking the screen doesn't void the entire warranty/Apple Care. If you pay an AASP to repair the screen then your Apple Care should be unaffected. However, if you get a third party to do it, or if there are any noticeable dents on the exterior, then Apple may refuse to touch it should you encounter problems down the road.

laptop is working fine, no issues, only thing is when lid is closed down it sticks out about 1mm more on right hand side... ie not flush ... b

apart from that itS OK.. but i read on the net that its a common enough issue, even on new ones...

How old is the machine? Are you going to get it fixed?

How old is the machine? Are you going to get it fixed?

its 11 months old, MBP 15" i7, its covered on house insurance for ALL risks,
not sure what to do, really.. whats involved in getting the screen realigned?

or is it better just to keep using it as is?

from what i read on the net, some new machines have this screen alignment issue too.

    cheers.

My screen was slightly out of alignment on the left hinge side and the hinge made a creaking noise. Eventually the black plastic hinge cover cracked a little.

I never dropped the machine once. Phoned Apple and CompuB replaced the whole screen.

You could chance trying to get it repaired in warranty, but if the accident caused the damage, I would claim via insurance instead personally.

I'd claim for this under household contents insurance. The Apple warranty only covers manufactured faults, not damage caused by misuse. What you could do is go to CompuB or similar authorised company and get the system 'OK'd' by them. In that case, if anything goes wrong between now and the end of the warranty period, you're protecting yourself against Apple accusing you of misuse, thus voiding the warranty.
