I've just been reading NFL.com and noticed that they're launching a new magazine in December.

They say that the magazine will give a great insight into the NFL with numerous articles, in depth interviews with players, contributions from top NFL writers, etc.

They're currently offering a yearly subscription which includes shipping to Ireland at a cost of $61. The subscription covers 13 issues and will also entitle you to an online version of the magazine.

Not a bad offer IMO and it looks like the magazine will be very good.

    Thoughts?

Sounds good alright, although I think magazines and physical publications are on their death bed. Between numerous top quality websites and podcasts, there's very little extra a magazine could offer to justify paying for it.

Anything about them releasing an iPad edition or similar?

Honestly I think its better to stick with something like Grantland which has excellent articles and is free. Also you could be waiting a while to get magazine shipped to Ireland. The articles could be gone out of date by the time you get it. With a website its up to date :) Just my two cents.

It's available on News Stand (I think that's on iPad's?) but that's only for American users and not for UK/Ireland at this moment in time unfortunately.

I would have to agree with your assessment, recent trends seem to indicate that magazines are on their death bed. However, I'm sure the NFL would have done plenty of market research rather than jumping straight in, so it will be very interesting to see how this goes.

I subscribe to ESPN's magazine and for my first subscription period I used to get the paper copy posted to me and as you say, it used to take weeks to get here. Usually it was around 3 weeks after issue but sometimes it was up to 6 and the occasional one got lost altogether. The digital version was there as well but being the stubborn guy that I am i used to hold off until the paper copy arrived. I just get the digital version now which is much better and a hell of a lot cheaper as well.

I'd imagine the same postage issue will be there for any NFL.com magazine.

Only $20 with a US address. Golden I signed up for it. Wont get December issue starts in January. If the digital version comes as a PDf that would be awesome. I wont send it to any of you if it does as that would be breaking the rules and I like the NFL :D

wink wink nudge nudge pm me

can you let me know if the digital version is any use - i've been in contact with an american company about getting subscriptions sent to them so i can get digital access - particularly for this and SI. Not gonna do it if the digital version is a poor mans print version.

Don't really like the idea of an official magazine anyway. Not likely to criticise anyone (as most articles on nfl.com will show)

BTW I don't mind paying for magazines. having a well produced magazine is sometimes is far more preferable to lose printed pages from your standard work/home printer.

    Personal choise though

Im the same but handy to have the pdf on your iphone/ipad etc etc. I will get my actual mag sent quicker than NFL would send it and a 4th of the price. But for $20 you cant go wrong. Works out at €1.30 a mag.

yep, and most magazines (including this one) offer a free 'digital' copy too. I've no issue with that.

I'm just saying I prefer the actual magazines and don't mind pay for it (in response to posts above)

They've added a digital only version now, available through zinio.com (£9.59, about €11.50) for 12 issues.

Wow there's a loads of ads! Read most of the first half and the Cam story, mixed bag so far but it's definitely worth the 12 euro for subscription.

There's surprisingly a lot of content between the ads. I particularly liked the play break down in the Cam article and would like to see more of that but there's a lot of fluff in there too.

If anyone wants a free digital subscription to this...

Sign up for a US zinio account (click on the flag in the top right corner on www.zinio.com) and about 48 hours later they'll email you a code for $25 of zinio credit.

Before the code arrives you may get a few other emails from them. I got my code.

NFL magazine is $15 for the year. ESPN the Magazine is $10.49 and they have a ton of team specific mags too.

    Enjoy

Magazines going the way of the newspaper, i.e. dying slowly.

Shame, quite enjoyed it even if the content was on the light and fluffy side
