    Hows it going,

I am 17 years old and i have been looking to join the naval reserves in haulbowline..I have sent numerous emails to manpower and the reserves section to no avail..

Does anybody on here have information about the nsr or is a member of the naval service/ in the reserve that could share some information.

    1) I would like to know is there a large waiting list to join ?
    2) How many people are taken on wen recruited
    3) Is there a great demand on fitness levels

Any information would be greatly appreciated

    Cheers.

The NSR in Cork are based in Collins Bks for the winter and Haulbowline for the summer. All recruiting is stopped due to the Govt ban, we have 12 wating to join so I would say at the moment it is not looking good. You must pass the same fitness test as Recs for the Navy.

Last October I completed a fitness, medical and interview for the navy in Cork. I was told I would hear from them within a month and I'm still waiting for a response , Emailed the Navy saying I have not heard anything and what was the story?! got a reply that my query will be put forward to the recruitment officer and he should get back to me soon.. that was on the 7th December ... and still nothing! He gave me a number to ring if I didnt hear back, but have tried several times and no answer , anybody have any info on the navy taking on people or is there a delay?

theres a recruitment ban service wide on the RDF which includes the Naval Service Reserve. it has been in effect for over a year. there will be no further recruitment until the VFM report on the Defence Forces is complete. At this stage the DOD will make decisions on the future of the Defence Forces of which the Reserve Defence Forces is currently a component. There is no set date on this VFM report being completed as it was due in august last year and has repeatedly slipped and until then you will hear nothing regarding reserves as there is no recruitment, you will see periodic limited recruitment in the permanent defence forces to keep numbers up at 9500, but nothing for reserves.

Bought An Cosantoir today and was pleasantly surprised to see a few former NSR comrades in an article about a foot drill comp held end of last year.
