Sorry to use a thread now if this has been done already.
Myself and a mate have just recently taken up our first memberships in a GC and have got our GUI cards and Handicaps sorted. My mate spoke to the handicap sec already but couldnt relay the info properly. so just couple of questions.

Are our cards only changed for Handicap purposes in Opens and other comps??
Or can they be submitted for Change when we just play a round??
If we play Open comps away do we sumbit cards there for change or do we have to do it at our home club??

Your handicap will only change after qualfying singles competitions, either at you home club, or open competitions at an away club.

No, you don't return your cards after casual rounds.

You enter your score in the away clubs computer and put your card in their scorecards box. After that, your home clubs handicap sec imports the away scores via computer, so no need for you to report it (unless for some reason it doesn't show up on the system - don't worry too much about that, hasn't happened to me in the last two years)

Your handicap can also change for various other reasons - eg. results in fourball comps, several good results in non-qualifying comps, unable to play for prolonged period due to injury - but again I wouldn't worry too much about them at this stage.

You can keep track of your singles results/handicap changes via golfnet ( www.golfnet.ie ). Just log in using your GUI number and the first time you log in the password is "golfnet" (as far as I remember).

One final thing - it's non-qualifying (nearly everywhere) at the moment and will be for the next few months, so plenty of time to get used to playing in a few club comps and opens before you start seeing any change to your handicap.
