    Hi all

i'm thinking of changing my car, a 10 year passat 1.6 petrol.

i've thought about what to get and have decided that a ford focus around 2008 or 2009, petrol again, 1.4 or 1.6 engine. i don't do enough miles to justify the extra cost of a diesel.

can someone here provide some feedback on the focus - any particular engine you'd recommend or maybe you've seen a good deal somewhere online, ideally i'd be looking to change February 2012 as that's when the NCT on the passat is due and i don't feel like spending any more money on it.

    thanks for any feedback.

I'd avoid the 1.4. The tivct 1.6 would be a good choice

Also look at KIA ceed, they have a great 1.6 petrol engine in the uk and are 302 tax, they're also quite well priced.

Get a Ghia or Titanium spec as the 1.6 is more powerful and economical in those. The 1.4 is underpowered even about town.

No tax advantage on the 1.4 after 08 is there?

Don't think so. The tivct in the new models in a low tax band so I'd image that might also be cleaner in the old model.

1.4 and 1.6 are both €447 on the new tax system meaning there is very little reason to buy a late 2008 or 2009 1.4 Focus.

not sure if i fancy the hassle of bringing a car in from the UK.

Even at 2 years old, they seem to be in better nick than Irish cars
