After a few near misses from various lulas in cars recently im thinking of taking out the above licence. . This covers you while you are out training, on club spins, and while participating in leisure tours I believe.

Has anybody used this in the past for a spill or crash etc and is it worth it???Seems great value@15e

I dont think it would cover that unless you were in full club gear and out with your team passing thru the city. alone in club gear would be the same I presume. I count commuting as my training but as far as Im aware I wouldnt be covered by my licence as insurance. others will have more info on the subject than I

    What about non-club members?

There are quite a few threads were CI insurance is discussed. IMHO its a top notch deal and I have yet to see anything as good but I am biased.

you are covered on your own or with your club. you are covered while training. you are covered whilst doing cycling ireland approved activities (racing in CI and other organisations races, training, leisure spins).

Don't take it out til Jan tho as it runs Jan to Dec and you only get the intro price once!

    Thanks Morana

Just to be clear, when you say 'out on your own', as a Leisure Member of CI am I covered for all cycling related activities? What about commuting to work?

AIUI, 'commuting' is not covered but 'training' while commuting is. Sprint intervals between lights anyone?

Its all very wishy washy-surely once you are on a bike that should be enough. Surprised nobody hasn't had to utalize it yet.

Is it only counted as training if you're in club gear?

If your training enough your gear will be in the wash somedays :D

OK. I was under the impression that I as a CI membered was covered under a thrird party policy.
So I am ok if I am hit by say another CI member on a club spin or other CI event.

If I hot a non CI member and damage them or theor vehicle then I am not covered. This is my understanding of the insurance. Am I correct in that understanding. If not where am I wrong?

Lads has this not all been discussed before?

You are covered if you are training. if you are training on the way to work you are covered (wear gear). you are not covered if you are going to the shops in your clothes for a bottle of milk say or cakes or eggs or whatever you prefer.

If you are out in a group and have an accident you are covered.
If you are out on your own training and have an accident you are covered.
if you are a club and have a guest with you on a spin, record name, address and details of spin and they are covered. Dont abuse it limit it to a max of 3 spins.
if you are racing you are covered.
if you are on a leisure spin you are covered.
If an event is put on by lets say another non cycling organisation e.g. FAI if its not approved by CI then you are not covered.
If our website says an event is not covered for any reason then guess what..you are not covered!
If you are Riding a club league race you are covered assuming your club is affiliated to CI.
If you do IVCA races you are covered by them I assume and ourselves.
If you ride the World Masters or international races you are covered.
You are covered from 1 Jan to 31st Dec. so apply for your licence early and sleep soundly!

Now if thats ****ing wishy washy I give up...I will ask for a comprehensive faq from the insurers for our website as I dont want to give any wrong information unknowingly.( I know they read this stuff so if you are then send the FAQ to the CEO and will publish it.)

unfortunatley a number of our members have had to use it and as far as I know there were no major issues. Are you trying to wind us up with a statement like that? Is it called trolling or something...

    *Pedant warning*

Double negative 'A standard form using two negatives to express a positive ("She is not unhappy")'.

devotional1993 is surely aware that what he has actually expressed is that he is somehow surprised 'somebody' has used their CI insurance......

    ;)

    and for my next trick...........

*"Pedant" does not mean any kind of ant. A "pedant" is a person who thinks that even very small details are important.

What? Trying to wind 'us" up . Didnt know you had a little clique going here. It is not trolling atall , infact its a serious matter. Ive been cycling and training in the dark lately and it seems there is a lot of confusion as regards what is covered. Obviously I hope I or nobody else has to use it but its very unclear as to who or what is covered.
