Just wondering could anybody tell me why some taxi drivers keep their ID flat on the dash board and others don't?
    It really bugs me.

They shouldn't. ID should be properly displayed at all times.

Report any that you see doing this.

Because nobody likes other people knowing who they are.. It forces them to be honest and accountable.

It is an offence for them to do this, hence why you see joint Garda\Taxi Regulator checkpoints. Taxis have a lot of regulations they have to abide by.

Might be a stupid question but how do you report them if you have nothing to identify them? I was going to report him for texting while driving but his ID was flat on the dash board. It was 5,30pm so when he got to my house it was too dark to see a reg plate!

You should always take note of the vehicle license no. located on the roofsign or on the yellow discs (daisies) on the front and rear windscreens. Details of complaints procedure can be found here

To be honest if he was texting while driving I would report him to the gardai as well.

Simple solution. Say to the driver that you can't see his ID and it usually gets lifted up from it's slump.

Could be two reasons most common one is the holder that the regulator give you to put your card into is on a hinge system and it falls over on its front and back all the time unless its resting on the windscreen. The newer ones are a solid holder but not many drivers have them.

Second reason is that they on the old IDcards dont want you or other drivers to see what county they are licenced for which is on the front side facing the windscreen, new ID's have the county on both sides

Best thing to do is ask to see it people ask me lots of questions when in my car I don't mind iv nothing to hide

    Simple,
Unless it has simply "fallen over":D, the driver is attempting to conceal information.

look. the regulations clearly say that the id card must be on display and can be seen from inside and outside the taxi .
now the thing about it falling over is right but this can be solved by a simple piece of blue tac ,tape , .
from the passenger point ,simple way is that if you get into a taxi and you cant see the id CLEARLY displayed .then get out .
tell the driver why you dont wish to travel in his taxi and walk away .
if every intending passenger done this then im sure the penny would eventully drop with those who dont display their id in a proper manner .

guys with the id fitted as it should be have nothing to hide .
