Make up my mind............... please

    Its either:

iphone 4s free and €45 a month and buy beats headphones - 24 month contract
HTC sensation XL €119 online for €40 a month (it comes with beats audio) - 18 month contract

I am way to indecisive for this business!

    Please help :)

Why would bother with buying beats headphones? It's the same type of product as Bose stuff ie Overpriced and extremely average kit.

I strangely like the design of the XL, but it's just the WP7 HTC Titan and it's spec reflects that. I wouldn't consider it over the 4S

What headphones would you reccommend so?

The Sensation XL is an overpriced version of the Sensation and, unlike the Sensation, it is restricted to a fixed 16Gb of memory. With a cheaper Sensation you can add up to 32Gb memory and, of course, can use any earphones you like.

The whole Beats audio + headphones business is a gimmick to separate people and their money. In business terms it's called "extracting the consumer surplus" (you can Google it).

Forget buying the phone on a contract. Choose the phone based on the cash price and pay cash for an unlocked phone, then buy a SIM only contract and, if you wish, a set of earphones. And price out some insurance for loss or theft. Which earphones to buy may be something best decided by a) your budget and b) a blind listening test. You may be surprised to find that you prefer cheaper earphones or that you can't tell the difference between units with very different prices.

If you can't pay cash you'd be better off putting some funds aside for rainy day contingencies.

I have just switched from an iPhone to an HTC Sensation because:

    1. I can replace the battery and even carry a spare (Apple wanted £119 to replace the phone, which is how it replaces the battery).
    2. It has a bigger, higher resolution screen and it's faster for web browsing
    3. It plays flash videos; I'm TIRED of Flash not working (though I have no problem with it disappearing in the end, in the meantime I'd like to be able to watch Flash video)
    4. The Android Market is as good or better for most things than the iPhone App Store

The iPhone wins for one handed operation including turning on the phone. It's user interface is a little more intuitive and convenient in a few places, and the HTC's is better in others.

    Good luck with your decision.

Before going down the sensation line, google and search YouTube.

It is a flawed phone with many problems.

I know a few people with both the Sensation & iPhone, and I can honestly tell you that the iPhone is more flawed in its build quality and phone quality...

BTW, regarding paying a premium for the beats headphones...??? They are bundled with the phone & it still costs less than an iPhone.

Personally I would go for the Sensation XE if it was available to me, then the XL, then the iPhone. The sound out of the beats is good, particularly coupled with the inbuilt equaliser profiles... I know this can be replicated by downloading some third party apps to play your music & by buying some headphones worth €100 +, but it is the best out of the box audio experience you will get at the moment on a phone...

They do not charge a premium for Beats, they add Beats as an incentive to buy the phone...

4s owner here, if you google/search youtube the 4s i'm sure you'll find similar results giving the indication that it's a flawed phone with many problems....just sayin'

The sensation is just too big imho.

Recently i went in to meteor store and just played with different phones - iphone 4s, htc sensation, samsung thingy. Anyhow the point is - of allt he ones i played with - only the iphone4s worked right. the androids were all crashing and misreading my finger etc etc. Now i know these are shop demo models - but thats kind of the point here. seems to me like the iphones stodd up to the beating better than the androirds. so i went with iphone

The Galaxy Nexus is what you want to go for in Android land, with ICS on it, it sets the bar for all phones.

Power wise the sensation whoops the iphone into submission
Software the iphone wins hands down..
If I had money at the minute id buy the galaxy Nexus it hammers the iphone on power and apple no longer hold the best display title either but the price is what's killing me.
I have to stick to my ip4 for a while

With the current deals/bundles available on the networks, buying a sim free handset for it's full price and then paying for usage/insurance is much more expensive.

Bought the sensation XL:D while it is a big phone after a few days of using it i haven't noticed it anymore. I had the ip4 and after 2 weeks i looked at it and it looked miniature, really tiny compared to the XL.

Camera is better than the iphone, internet searching as well. Resolution on the XL is ahell of alot better than the Ip4. The earphones i used for the first time today and i must say they are excellent!!!! Im just getting used to the XL as ive always been an iphone owner.

The main thing that i like about it is the freedom of not having to use itunes for nearly everything. Just my two cents

768Mb of RAM compared to 512Mb and 1.5Ghz single core compared to 800Mhz dual core is hardly a whooping in all fairness

Completely disagree. You can by a iphone 4s for 600 direct from apple, sign up to three pay as you go for 20 a month and get free all oyu can eat texts and data, free calls weekends, free three calls, and only pay for weektime calls to non three numbers. Over two years at 20 a month, if you stick to the mide week calling limit, total cost will be €1080. Plus you get roaming in the UK as if you were still in Ireland. The cheapest on any plan with any company over the same time period is about €1300. - EDIT: I stand corrected its one of the meteor plans also at 1080 - but the point remains in the vast majority of cases its cheaper to buy it outright yourself....so long as you don't loose it.
