    Hey Guys,

I posted here a few weeks ago about our new Siberian Husky pups.. They are doing really well, flying around the place now at this stage. They are 6 weeks old today and they have both been wormed but I have a question about their first vaccination.. I was under the impression that they get their first at 6 weeks so I had them booked in this evening in the vets but when I rang another vets today (I was pricing around) she said their first is not to be done till 8 weeks? And then I rang our current vets again asking whether we should vaccinate them at 6 or 8 weeks and she said 8 so I'm confused now.. Should we just wait until they are 8 weeks?

Here's a pic of one of the little ladies :)

It depends. They can be vaccinated for Parvo at 6 weeks, but they will have to still have 2 more sets of vaccinations from 8 weeks then anyway.

If your vets are syaing 8 weeks, then i would leave them until then.

Ok, thanks andreac! I'll leave them until 8 weeks so.

Also, just another question.. Considering they're not vaccinated would it be ok to let them out in our back garden for a few mins per day or would it just be safer to keep them indoors until they are vaccinated?

Your own back garden is fine to let them out in. Just be careful if you have other dogs coming into your garden, as they could risk passing on diseases like Parvo if they are in your garden.

    Hi Lippy,
Merial, the veterinary pharmaceutical company, have published advice about socialisaing non-vaccinated pups. They have correctly recognised that the damage done by lack of early socialisation and habituation far exceeds any health danegrs to the pup, as long as the process is carried out in a careful and considered way to minimise the risk of infection.
I am delighted that Merial have published this information, because it makes it official!
Here's a link to their advice published on a Dog's Trust document:
