    I find that the HD Channels are in Dolby (only some times in 5.1). the Standard channels are in stereo

    What I do is set my system to decode as Dolby Pro Logic if it's a stereo track. This makes the centre and rear channels work in a largely sensible fashion (speech to centre mainly, diffuse sound to rears). You can still hear the difference plainly when switching to a Dolby Digital channel like BBC HD on 135.

    I have similar issue. As suggested above, I think the issue is that while all the HD channels are broadcasting Dolby Digital audio it depends on the actual programme/film being broadcast and as yet there's not an awful lot of true 5.1 around but I assume that will change dramatically over the next year or two.
