The Fishguard to Rosslare fast ferry service will not be returning to service in the summer, it has been announced.

Stena Line has sold its Lynx III fastcraft but confirmed the twice-daily superferry service would continue.
A spokesperson said the Stena Europe Superferry service had benefited from a £1m refit in 2010.

Stena has already announced a cut in its fast ferry service between Holyhead and Dun Laoghaire.
The route from the north Wales port is now a seasonal service.

    That's not the HSS ;)

And the ferry was sold a couple of months ago, it's in Korea by now with its new owners. I'm fairly sure this is old news?

to me its a "high speed service" ! (I thought HSS was a generic term, obviously wrong!)

The article is a day old so presumed it was new news, or at least confirming what everyone presumed was happening - but hadnt been previously confirmated by Stena.

And excuse my ignorance but till very recently I had literally zero interest in ferries seeing as a proper high speed service - an aer lingus A320 doing 870kmh - could whisk me from the far side of germany to Ireland in a bit over 2 hours.
Now that I have 2 infant kids and need a car in Ireland, its more economical by a significant amount in peak season to drive and use ferries than fly with full fare and taxes on the kids and get r@ped with car hire fees once in Ireland.

Apart from the obnoxious terminology car hire fees are generally cheaper in Ireland than in Germany or the Netherlands.

If you're travelling regularly by ferries in Europe it might be useful to keep up-to-date with what's going on

there are lots of yahoo groups where these things are discussed

Indeed. Its a fast moving scene!

Within a couple of weeks Fastnet line running the Cork-Swansea route went belly up along with Sea-France which offer the Dover crossing for Irish passengers using Stena Landbridge offers to the continent.
