Due an upgrade today

So, just off the phopne from three who tell me I'm entitled to an upgrade today.

Have been using the SGS1 since early August 2010, and must admit have been quite fond of it.

Was keen to get my hands on the Galaxy Nexus as my next upgrade, but obviously with three confirming they will not be stocking the phone, I will nw be forced to choose an alterative.

Obviously the SGS11 is a potential runner, but I'm concious of the fact that its already 6+ monthas old, and unsure if I want to be tied into an 18 month contract with a phone that will be well over 2 years old by the time I'm due another upgrade.

Wondering if there are any potential handsets coming up in the near future to rival the sgs2? Or do you lot think I will be more or less safe enough with the SGS2 into 2013?

    All advice appreciated.

I was looking at the Nexus, but reviews are coming in that, bar the OS, there's no reason not to buy the galaxy s II. Once that has the next update of android (ICS) on it I think it should be better than the Galaxy Nexus.

I'm looking to buy a SII now actually on adverts. I'd already installed ICS for a test on my Nexus S, and it was very nice. Would have left it on, but I couldn't reinstall some of my apps I needed for work. And that was just a port, I'll wait til the full version I suppose..

If you're due an upgrade, does that mean you're out of contract?
Vodafone have a page on their website where you can register interest in the galaxy nexus

    Hi.

Not really interested in changing network providers, three do get bad press on here from time to time, but I can whole heartedly say that I am more than happy with the service and plans.

    Been looking on the site,

I can get an SGS2 for free

Iphone 4s 32GB in black or white for free

Iphone 4s 64GB in black or white for €89

Half considering going for the 64GB 4s and selling on, then buying the SGS2, and have a few bob left over.....

    Anyone any suggestions?

I agree with the bad press 3 get. I'm with them and have never had any issue.
You cant beat their AYCED either..

But was just letting you know about the Galaxy Nexus availability on VF.
As Mark said, SGII with ICS will outshine the Galaxy Nexus.

Does the Nexus even have Gorilla Glass?

Does the Nexus even have Gorilla Glass?

Nope it doesn't, but it seems to stand up to the most dangerous thing that would be in my pocket

Also does ok in a drop test, though admittedly this is onto carpet

I am in the same boat, I am eligible for an upgrade with 3 and not sure what to get. I was hoping for the nexus, obviously now a no go. I was thinking that obviously the next galaxy s3 will be too far off (out maybe mid next year) and am using a crappy Samsung Europa so want an upgrade :(:(

I spoke to 3 on here and they told me they have new phones on the way (but not the nexus) and will be announced in a few weeks so I will hold off for now..

Right, is the general consensus that the OP should upgrade to galaxy s two, and on a18 month contract have it until 2013?

Surely there must be some exciting new phone due in early 2012 they should hold out on?

I agree with the consensus, TBH SGS II is a wicked device, very thin, very beautiful, with good battery life for a Droid. I'm looking forward to seeing ICS on that device. If you're in the market for a Droid, it's the one to have, hands down.

I don't think there will be very much coming out in the next 6 months. Most phones have already been launched a while back and are well known about, ready for the Christmas season. The next major trade show would be CES in mid-January, phones generally take 3+ months to come to market after that, so March/April ± a few weeks for carrier testing. Other than a bump to the camera, an even faster processor and a qHD screen and maybe NFC I don't see how Samsung can really improve on the SGS II.
