I have a Pass Advisory on one of my tyres - tread less than 3mm but above the minimium.

For the retest do I have to change this tyre, money short and just dont have it at the moment.

    Thanks

    What retest?

    What retest?

Exactly, there is no retest, it's simply advice that your tyres are currently not great (but within legal limits) and you should look at replacing for your and other road users safety.

Can make no sense of the terms 'Fail Advisory' or 'Pass Advisory' so I downloaded the NCT Manual and searched for the word 'advisory'.

The only mention of the word is in S.61 Registration Lamps which says as follows:

Item 61, Registration Plate Lamps, is now a Fail Advisory item. Failure of this test will not result in overall failure of the vehicle. The owner/presenter is to be advised of the Fail Advisory item and urged to have it repaired as soon as possible.

    What retest?
Maybe it failed on something else but was just given a pass advisory on the tyres?

I had a pass advisory for a rear tire with less than 3mm. Car failed on other visual checks. Got everything fixed, replaced the tire and passed the retest. Still had a pass advisory on the sheet.

My guess is they wont even check it.

Pass advisory doesn't require a retest its just an advisory. Mine passed with the same issue and the cert was issued and no need for a retest. Report just mentioned it

As said, unless you also failed on other things, there is no retest.

They have noted that your tyre is below the safety limit for tyre thread, although not yet below the legal minimum so it still does need to be changed shortly.

This is not aimed at you OP but there seems to be a lot of people who think that the only purpose of having good tyres is to pass the NCT:rolleyes:
