    hi all,

Our work phone contract is with vodafone and they have dropped in two new i phone 4 for us, however i haven't offered them out to staff as i was hoping to give one to my wife and child but iv'e been told that i'll have to pay a data charge of €10 per month. I was hoping they could use the phones ready to go way, can anyone advise on what can be done.

Aside from it being fairly stingy of you to take a work phone for use at home, the phones will only be tied to Vodafone, so there's nothing stopping you from using your wife's PAYG SIM in the phone.

I know Seamus but cash is tight this year and if i can save a few quid by this i'll take it. Do you know if I have to get them unlocked or anything??, can they just go into the nearest vodafone store and get a sim to suit a i phone, then top up their credit and away they go using it??, connect to the net via wireless broadband??.

We have a draw for money in work each Christmas, i'll add some extra cash to offset my meaness

Well if its OPs Company, i dont see the issue.

If its not, then that's a different story.

It its your company, and you're the one that pays the phone bills to vodafone, then its yours to do what you like. The phones were given to you becasue of the money you spend.

If however, its not your company and your a manager/senior/employee, then its very different.

Normally if they're 'dropping' phones into you, surely something must have been signed to renew the contract with Vodafone. So again, it all balances on if you're the owner or an employee chancing your arm. Be careful if you're an employee as it could come back to bite.

I've never been on Vodafone with work phones, only o2, but if Vodafone are just dropping phones into loyal customers for free, I'm jumping ship tomorrow!
