<hoping this is the right forum>

I need to get a radio for xmas, one that can pick up BBC radio 4 (does that mean LW or Satellite) but also have ability to play my iPhone music.

Any recommendations on a device? Price limit 250 EUR. Needs to be reasonably compact as it is for kitchen location.

FM radio/amp with iPhone dock. Use a cheap FM transmitter (€6) on a Satellite Receiver for R4.
All possible under €250 inc dish and satellite receiver

Nothing that does LW other than 1950s radios takes MP3 player (the 1950s sets have a "gram" input that works!)

You could get a decent FM/AM Radio with LW and fit a 3.5mm jack to the volume control. Then when you plug in player (phone, MP3 or PMP) the radio is disconnected by the two switch contacts on the socket. Another option is a Car radio with VHF, MW & LW and USB for stick and 3.5mm jack built in for player. Fit 12V psu and a couple of speakers on wall and put radio under a shelf or cupboard.

Most high street radios are rubbish on LW & MW. The little "Worldband" radio alarm clocks at €10 to €20 are no use for anything other than local radio.

You can also get an FM TX pod for iPhone and then any FM radio with in about 20m can tune it in Stereo. About x10 price of a "generic" 3.5mm jack Transmitter as anything for the Fruity Company is overpriced.
