As per thread title I would like to see this introduced, this would stamp out spamming which is happening every day on Boards and also idiots with 1-10 posts starting ridiculous threads.

That would deter every new users too. Meanwhile spammers will simply reply to posts rather then create them. It's not a workable solution.

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

A lot of people join boards because they have a specific question they want to ask in a specialist forum. It would just end up with people posting new topics in threads that aren't relevant or dragging up old threads that are years old.

How about removing the permission to post links to other websites in peoples first X posts. That may discourage spammers, real and spambot, as their raison d'etre is to post a link to another website.

May not be technically feasible to do under vbulletin software.

A good proportion spammers are of the hit-and-run type. They are almost invariably picked up very quickly. I am sure the admins find it irksome dealing with them.

A time limit between registering and being allowed start a thread might deter many of them. Perhaps a week would suffice.

Time limits between thread starting, increased for new users. Like one every 5 minutes.

    Exactly.

You tell a poster that they need 20 posts before starting a thread, what do they do? Well if they're a spammer they'll make 20 quick crappy posts and then spam away. It would create more work for the mods if you ask me.

Plus one of these days we might just need one of those sexy dresses that they post over in AH...for the mods to wear for SSF!

So what happens to the new user who finds Boards and joins specifically to ask about the the way the CAO works, or a quickfix for a computer virus, or the VAT on importing a camera, etc. etc.?

And a hell of a lot of the current and new users of Boards joined / join for just those kind of reasons, and then branch out into the rest of the site.

This idea would stamp out a significant proportion of genuine new sign-ups; spammers on the other hand would just find a way round it very quickly.

Besides, we have plenty of people with 1,000 posts and more who start ridiculous threads!

Again, this would deter many genuine new users.

Spammers on the other hand would simply register accounts and let them sleep for the minimum period.

Many spammers do similar already in an effort to slip under the radar, in fact.

I really do not want to write code to get around this misrepresentation, surely the hint was gotten when the actual word closed was added to the usertitle censor...
