My friends XPS M1330 fell off the bed and now won't work. One of the hinges has become detached. Could this be the problem? Any other ideas that could have caused it to not turn on from the fall?

Any help is most welcome :)

I suppose it could be a loose connection but more likely a screwed Harddrive due to the fall.

Sorry should have put more details.

No wont power on at all no lights or anything its just dead. I tried it with battery and ac and no luck.

It was working before the fall.

Could motherboard be gone from it?

was the battery charged when you have tried? If there are no lights at all it means that adapter is not charging the battery. Check the adapter and power jack inside laptop if you can (if you don't want to open it check if it is loose or for anything out of ordinary).

Check mostly damaged areas for metal pieces touching motherboard and possibly causing short circuit.

I doubt it will work but also try disconnecting all power sources (battery and adapter) and press power button for about 30 sec. This should discharge all capacitors inside which may be causing the problem.

Thats all you can really do to fix it without getting laptop opened.

M1330s are quite delicate so I wouldn't be suprised if it is the MOBO. Reseat all the cables, ram, hdd etc and see if that gets you anywhere.
