    Hey,
Can anyone help me with a query. I have a Hyundai Lantra Coupe and it was making a very loud noise at the back. After getting it checked I've been told the wheel bearing (at the rear) is what is gone.
Anyway my query is if the bearing is gone does that mean I'd need a new wheel bearing kit and if so which one. The reason I'd prefer get the part myself is because I'm really short on cash and it is alot cheaper than asking the garage to get the part. Can anyone please advise me.

    Thanks

I'm not familiar with the model so don't know the exact wheel bearing setup on them. However, I will ask how do you know it is cheaper to buy yourself if you don't even know what part you need? Did you get a price off the garage?

In fact I would say the garage would get it cheaper then you as us in the trade get a fairly decent discount on parts. And secondly it's wont cost a arm and a leg to fix either to be honest.i couldnt see you paying anymore then 200 to 250 max for a wheel bearing supplied and fittedto any car.it could be cheaper I'm just giving a estimate.and it shouldn't take any longer the 1 and a half hours labour.we mechanics do theses everyday of the week

Done one at home on a Renault Megane coupe recently.

I got the bearing in a motor factors €25 or €35 and I also had to buy a large 30mm socket for the Axle nut.

You would need a manual or instructions for your car.
I used brute force to hammer out the old and in the new one, but you would be safer to have someone do that with a hydraulic press. It can be tricky to get off the hub and axle nut also.

It's a spare/weekend car so I can't justify spending too much on it, and it's also a learning excercise.

Took me 1 or 2 hours, but that's not counting the time scratching head, looking serious, checking web....
