It's very easy to do and not worth doing imo. It's easy to hide and reverse. Not like rooting an Android phone which opens up everything and anything.

so its NOT worth doing your saying

    Completely disagree
    Its definitely worth doing
Just a few tools which are worth jailbreaking your phone for are:
SBSettings - this is probably the most useful app for an iphone, I can't believe they didn't build something like this into ios5.
    Barrel.
    Winterboard.
    Folder enhancer.

Unfortunately its only possible to tether jailbreak ios5 and alot of the stuff in cydia is still quite buggy so I'd hold out for an untethered jailbreak.

thats probably the main reason I want to jailbreak..............just to get somethimg like Sb setings, I cant believe apple have not got a bloody homscreen toggle yet for wifi, bluetooth, 3g, etc, ridiculous IMHO

What does "tether" jailbreak mean ?

how long after an IOS is released does a "proper" jailbreak appear, 1 month, 6 months etc ?

when you jailbreak, do you still have all the other normal iphone stuff ?

Im new to iphone so sorry for all the basic q's

How can you possibly think its not worth doing?

You can get a semi tether tweak in cydia which makes it worth jailbreaking now tbh

There used to be a website called jailbreakme that was REALLY easy to use, but not sure if it's still around.

I did a tethered jb a couple of weeks ago and it was more of a pain in the arse than anything else.

I did an untethered jb on a 3GS I had a year ago, and although SBSettings was very very good, that was the only ting worth jb'ing for, IMO. I found my battery dropped charge very quickly when jb, but that could be just coincidence.

a tethered jailbreak means that if you run out of battery you will need to connect the phone back to your pc for the jailbreak software to boot up your phone again. untethered means you don't.

i've had every iphone except the 3g one and jailbroke them all except the iphone 4 and being honest it was worth it for sbSettings and to actually unlock the phone (most of my phones were bought stateside with AT&T). now though I just don't bother, i never turn off wifi, don't use bluetooth so sbSettings is kinda pointless to me.

that being said though it's been about a year since i've used a jailbroken device so it could be different.

Yea, I tried it when ios5 first came out but I'd some trouble with winterboard and some other tweaks causing the springboard to go into safemode.
I might try it again this weekend

Yeah i got the winterboard one really bad. But then they updated it to 5.0 so it went pretty sweet.

I havent jail broken but something like SBSettings seems good. Not big enough reason to jailbreak IMO.

I understand why Apple don't give quick toggles for wifi etc. The user shouldn't have to worry about saving battery life. Of course the battery tech isn't at that level yet. But I'd guess apple didn't want to introduce a quick toggle and then remove it when it wasn't relevant anymore.

from my view its not about saving battery to have this toggle , its just about the handiness of having a toggle for these on the homescreen

although in sayin that, ive just got a 4s and the battery is ****e !

Well I got easily double the time from my battery when I had mine jailbroken and SBsettings was why.
    For example
I had the screen brighter in the daytime than the evening, used to knock off wifi when leaving the house/office/etc, knock off bluetooth when not in the car.

One of the biggest reasons I would jailbreak is for Activator, I use a program called springflash which I activate with the double click power button. This allows me to turn on the light quickly.

Another app I would miss is multifl0w, which is an app switcher, which when you use would make you wonder why apple don't just implement it themselves.

Dont listen to anyone who advises you not to JB. Im on iphone 4 (4.1) and given the ultimatum of staying untethered JB or updating to IOS5 - well, there really is no contest IMO

SB settings is not reason enough, as slick and useful as it is, but there is so much more......;)

That said, stuck here with an ipad 2 on ios5 and no light at the end of the JB tunnel as of yet. The wait is a real PITA:mad:

how long normally is the wait ?

i.e when apple release a new IOS, how long after that before a "proper" jailbreak appears ?

No one can really give you the time for that.
The jailbreakers are looking for a hole in the IOS that allows them to upload their code until they find a suitable one and a way to inject the code their wont be a jailbreak.

Thethered is all there is at present and until they have unthethered i would recommend anyone new to stay away from it.

The idea of having to be beside your pc if you switch off your phone is a nightmare.

I do miss SBsettings and some other cydia apps such as iblacklist but not enough to hobble my phone with a thethered jb.

Obviously with IOS5 there are other disadvantages to JB like not being able to use over the air updates on the iphone, that being said if a thethered jb came out tomorrow i would be all over it. Holding out upgrading from ios5 to 5.1 in the vain hope it comes soon.

    i miss my 4.3.3 jb :(

sbsettings was really handy but you get used to not having it again i suppose.
the things i miss the most are

sbsettings, the 5 icon dock,5 icons in each row (more per page of the springboard) and barrell

You can get sbsettings like toggles without being jailbroken now.

Might be handy for some. I'm on tethered jailbreak ios5 on ip4 it's not that bad. ;)
