Any non hotel wedding suggestions?

I hate Hotel function rooms, I find they all look the same no matter how fancy the venue is. However I'm stumped now that i'm finally engaged (after 12 years!) as to what to do.
I originally thought I would have a marquee in my parents garden but I never realised marquee hire was so expensive even up north and with the hassle involved and Irish weather being so unpredictable, I think I've pretty much discounted it.
I have looked at a few places so far like Darver castle (didn't like), Larchfield in Lisburn (love but no accommodation on site) and Boyne Hill house (love but small dance floor) and am going to look at a few exclusive/country houses places in Meath during the week but their prices seem so ridiculous.
Nothing has stood out to me so far.
    Any suggestions?

Try googling 'Castle Oliver' in Co. Limerick - Its fabulous, location may not suit but it will give you an idea of what's available.

Castles or restaurants. The Mustardseed is also in Limerick and does food and functions...

oh, and Markree Castle looks the part. It's really lovely. Have heard though that they bring in caterers to make the food though but the tasting is done by their chef - so just enquire about that to be sure.

We hired Malahide Castle. It was a great setting, but be sure to get a permit from Fingal County Council re wedding photos in grounds. You will have no problem getting a permit once you explain the reception is on in the castle. From what I recall it cost about €45.00 a head. Food was great and the staff amazing.

Thanks so much for all the suggestions.
Going to look at tankerstown and a few others round that area this week.
Narrow Water has changed ownership and it's not so well run now, nor can you stay in it anymore.
Does anyone have any vague idea of what caterers cost? I'd almost love to hire out a rugby club and get it decorated myself.
