    if i was to own a boeing bussiness jet could i fly it with a ppl or would i need a cpl and could i fly anywhere in the world like ireland to usa or would i need a usa pilots license :confused:

    I've only a PPL but as far as I know you would need to upgrade to a rating for that type of plane, plus of course an instrument rating. If it's registered in Ireland then you fly it with an Irish PPL. No need for a CPL.

    You would need a second man with you. You will also need MCC. I imagine the authority would require experience in the cockpit, inspection of maintenance and other such things...

    Probably best to drop Travolta an email...

    Doesn't Travolta have a CPL? I think I remember him flying the Qantas A380 once.

    He also owned an ex-Qantas 707 and has a second-in-command type rating for it! In addition to his PIC type ratings for his Gulfstream, Citation, Lear, Hawker, etc...

    According to the FAA's database, Travolta still only holds a Private Pilot's Certificate.

    As the others said you could fly it on a PPL. Really you don't need a CPL unless you want to get paid. The CPL really isn't that big a deal. More of an advanced PPL. Definitely needed would be an Instrument rating, a twin rating obviously and a type rating. Plus you'd need crew one of whom presumably must be an ATPL

    Actually this raises a question in my mind. I wonder could you be a Captain of a large aircraft with a PPL? Or do you need an ATPL? I don't suppose it ever arises as a problem. Even Travolta only has SIC privileges on his 707.

    So sgbrady are you in the market for one?

    if you fly cessnas all the time and you have a PPL , If you won the lotto and bough an a380 i think youd have to do some sort of training course just to learn the basics of an a380 :) like if an airline pilot flies a A321 and is moved to a 777, he has to do a course to learn about it :)

    The Boeing Business Jet can be "legally" flown Single Pilot if it is a non-commercial flight as can most other aircraft for that matter. Common sense says otherwise though!

    If you hold an ICAO-Private Pilots Licence(A), you would need at least a valid ICAO- Instrument Rating, ICAO-Multi-Engine Piston Rating and a ICAO-Type Rating for the Boeing Business Jet in order to do what you have set out in your question you wrote. Are you the mysterious lotto winner from Abbeyknockmoy by any chance :p

    No it can't nor can it be configured for single pilot operation. The FAA among others stipulate that aircraft with a max take off weight above 12,500 pounds must be flown with two pilots. That includes many of the bigger bizjets including Lears, Challengers, Gulfstreams etc.

    Even if you took off the wings, the BBJ wouldn't fall into that category. So sgbrady will still have to hire a couple of pilots.

    Besides if I had to the money for one. I would get a type rating on it but spend most of my time in the back drinking vintage champagne. Occasionally irritating my pilots by taking all the landings on sunny days while letting them take all the scary ones.:D

    People say to me, 'If you won the lotto, would you buy a plane? I always say: 'Hell no, I'd just sign up with Netjets or someone.' Get myself a 'Jet card' and just pick up the phone and ask for a jet to be waiting for me at the nearest airport, destination Monte Carlo via Nice. 'And fill up the fridge with Champagne' Be there at 7am, no wait I'm rich, make that noon.:)
