recovering a gravelled area

I have quite a large area (used in the main for parking cars) that is gravelled.
Over the years it has got very threadbare and ground in .

Most of the original material is pebbles (between 1 and 2 inches in diameter ) that are kind of buried in sand at this stage.
I am thinking of buying extra gravel now to smarten the area up and wonder what size would be suitable?

Would a mixture of larged sized gravel and small sized gravel work -or do I have to go for one size ideally ?

If a mixture is possible how does that work over time?
Does the smaller size eventually get buried by the larger (they would be sitting on a softish ,sandy substrate) - or is it the other way round?

    thanks
