iPod touch 2nd Gen problem

Hey all, I have an iPod touch 2nd gen, 32gb. I am running software 4.2.1 but it is terrible, all my apps keep crashing and safari won't work. I have been running it for ages and there does not seem to be any update available to fix all these crashes. Is anyone experiencing the same problems?

Have you shut it down and rebooted recently? Hold down the power button until you see a red button with a left-pointing arrow, slide the red button across left to right and the iTouch will shut down, wait for the spinning disc in the middle of the screen to disappear, then switch it back on again.

If that doesn't fix it, maybe sync it and then do a restore.
