Here is a question my friend asked me a few days ago...has been bugging me since.....Who won a FAI cup medal, a Sigerson cup medal and was rugby European player of the year?

Now I know Tony Ward has won a FAI cup medal and was rugby player of the year...so I he has to be they only possible answer....

So can anyone confim that he did infact win a Sigerson Cup medal?

From what I have researched he went to Thomond College, they one an All Ireland club cup and the trench cup.....but a sigersons?

    Thanks

Ward never played gaelic football (or hurling) at any competitive level, he confirmed that in his column a few weeks back when he talk about playing in a charity football match at Croke Park.

Paul McNaughton, Irish rugby manager, played minor hurling and senior football for Wicklow GAA. He played in two FAI Cup finals for Shelbourne and was capped by the Irish amateur team. Most famously, he was capped by Ireland in rugby union.

He has the distinction of playing GAA in Croke Park, soccer in Dalymount Park and rugby in Lansdowne Road.

However, I'm unaware of him winning a Sigerson, he lost both FAI Cup finals and I've never even heard of a European rugby player of the year award from the amateur era.

I'd say it was definitely a Limerick United player, they won the cup in 71 and 82 and it is well known soccer, GAA and rugby are huge in that city.
