Is this ESB Bill to high for a house share?

We received the Electricity Bill today and one of the girls in the house thinks its too high - €141.00 for a 4 bedroom detached house, with 3 girls where 2 of them use hairdryers a lot and 2 have electric toothbrush, washing machine used a fair bit and so too is dishwasher. Immersion wouldn't be on that much but one electric shower which is used daily. I don't think the bill is too high on average for the last year they have been about the €120/€130 figure.

Can anyone tell me if they think this is high?

Sounds about right to me. Mine is usually around the €80 and I live in a one bed apartment!!!!

Its about average. In my last (badly insulated house) the ESB was terribly high. Our new place is well insulated and we are careful to put washes on in the evenings and rarely ever use the tumbledryer, and it would still be around what you bill is for 2 people in a 2 bed apartment.

thanks, the house is well insulated, the heat is not run thought the electricity we get gas for that, sorry should maybe have mentioned that before. But the girl who was complaining is the one who puts on the washing machine half full and also doesn't put dishes in the dishwasher correctly so puts it on when it wouldn't be full. I probably annoy her as I rearrange the dishes so that there are no gaps and they still get washed!!

I did explain to her that I thought it was normal and that with cooking/cleaning etc it would be around that.

    Thanks again.

Don't forget to remind her that if she's unhappy with the bill she should use less electricity.

It went up 20% on 1 October for ESB and I think Airtricity & Bord Gais were something similar. I found mine was a good bit higher this month. What can you do though except pay it and try to use less electricity.

For a four bed it's not bad at all

Remember there are lot of standing charges and VAT
There comes a point when you can't realy get it any lower

There's an ok bill for you and your housemates, no huge shock

I don't think an electric toothbrush or two will add much to the bill :D

Wasn't trying to make out electric toothbrushes add more to the bill was just trying to say what electrical items we use.

Thanks to everyone else for the advice and hopefully they will just pay up.

Is that €141 for one or two months? I haven't gotten one yet in my house. Just wondering what I should expect. :)

Every two months - seen an ad of TV for Airtricity, just wondering would it be worth changing to them or is there much of a difference between ESB, Bord Gais and Airtricity.

€141 for 2 months for a 4 bed house seems very good. I paid €120 for the last two months and I'm in a one bed apartment. It used to be about €80, but since I had a baby I've been using the tumble dryer more (seemingly that's pretty heavy on the electricity) and also AFAIK there was a price increase at the start of october.

I live in a four bedroomed detached house on my own and my last bill was €101, €141 is fine for four people.

I'm in a 4bed detached house, electric shower, myself and an 8 year old so tv, wii, laptops, chargers, hairdryers etc. And I use the tumble dryer a lot.
My latest bill was €140 for two months (It's usually about €120).
So your bill sounds about right.

Just got ours, 123.00 for two of us in a two-bed. Everything (heat, cookers, shower etc) runs off electricity in our place. We're with Airtricity. €141.00 is good! Like, 17 quid a month each, what's she moaning about? :P
