Meh, Nanolight is much nicer looking imo. Pics aren't great but the headtube/forks look fugly.

    I foresee crap ride quality.

It's a bit "industrial" looking - I think I'd prefer something with more curves and less angles, but that's just me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,718 ✭✭✭AstraMonti

I think it looks a lot like an Orbea Orca, at least parts of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,124 ✭✭✭daragh_

I think it looks swanky but I know feck all about bikes.

I like it I think. Do we know where in their product line they're placing this? Is it a replacement for the Nanolight or above that again?

Here is another pic. It's either the angle of the photo or this frame has an unusual high bottom bracket for a road bike.

IIRC, they put the paint scheme for this to the public vote on their FB page.

It looks like a Scott Foil.

Maybe they could call it the Planet X Clingfilm.

Like Foil, except with none of the stiffness.

IMO They won't be able to go very much over the Nanolight price (€883 delivered) as it'll be getting close enough in price to the Canyon Ultimate CF which is well tested and reviewed.

Plus if cheapish chinese carbon is your taste theres a
new and similar if possibly more Venge-like frame out soon (inventively named FM-098) that looks nicer, is probably made in the same factory and will almost certainly be cheaper.

    Quoting from FB:
new high end aero carbon road frame.

Which means above nanolight for me..

More details and photo's here http://www.bikeradar.com/news/article/planet-x-unveil-2012-road-bikes-32471

    The new Carbon looks nice.

    £699 - €813 (excl delivery)

If it's not a noodle then that's an OK price for an aero road frame actually

I would have said TCR Advanced at first glance.

Shows though that really bike manunfactorers are just rearranging the furniture lately. They've done everything within the limits and proved that the bikes are 'sound' to the UCI - now only if those pesky officials in Aigle just lowered the weight limit and allowed disk brakes.

    Sarto:

That looks nice to me. Matte finish, squared chainstays but round elsewhere, internal cabelling... yeah, nice. wonder how much that'll be.

The large cross-sections of aero frame tubing tend to produce a very stiff riding bike.

Yeah £1299 for frame and forks only! Can't see folk spending that money when they can pick up Pro-Tour proven Canyon frames or discounted bigger brands for that price.

It is a nice bike though.

Totally agree - wouldn't be in the running for me at all

It looks about as stiff as a wet sliced pan.

Love it. Looks smashing. Planet X have gone on long enough without the services of a designer.

While I have seen some nice looking planet x's on the road, it's been largely down to the owners themselves with a adding tasty finishing kits and wheels and stuff with a good eye for styling, I've only ever considered one as a crash replacement option or a winter bike or something for myself.

But that's lovely that is. -It does something that the previous designs never did. - It looks expensive :)

Oh and kudos to all those here who can "see" chassis stiffness. You should post up contact details, there are million euro, Formula 1 team, chief engineering posts just waiting for all of you.

    Aero looking road frame...

    id buy that, looks deadly

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,718 ✭✭✭AstraMonti

There's a rumor going on about Sarto that the frame is going to be around the 700gr weight, which will be more than impressive for that price.

    http://road.cc/content/news/48133-exclusive-first-ride-planet-x-n2a

    Ride review:
So how did we find the N2A? Stiff. Really stiff. This is one of the most rigid bikes I’ve ridden… and I’ve ridden a lot of bikes.

Most of the time our ride group was pretty well behaved, tapping out the miles in the fog. But occasionally, someone would make a bid for glory and go off the front; boys will be boys – you know how it is. Get out of the saddle and put the hammer down to chase and there’s virtually zero movement at the bottom bracket. I was only on the N2A for three-and-a-bit hours, admittedly, but that BB was remarkably solid.

    Second interesting thing...

    Planet%20X%20N2A%20down%20tube.jpg

It doesnt look too aero does it?

Starting to look interesting choice though for sub kilo frame.

Are Px claiming/calling it to be an aero frame? I could look but couldnt be arsed!

    Slightly OT
Is the aero thing a bit of a fad because didnt a recent edition of cycling weekly come to the conclusion after testing a few 'aero' bikes that without deep section hoops the advantage of aero frames is very limited before voting the Boardman the winner who regulary takes out full page ad's as opposed to the other test bikes who afaik didnt. Cynical! MOI?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,718 ✭✭✭AstraMonti

Well the name says it, N2A, N for nanolight, 2 for nanolight 2.. and A for Aero.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,971 ✭✭✭fat bloke

Maybe it means "not too aero"...

http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/FRPXN2A/planet_x_n2a_carbon_road_frame_and_fork Out for preorder. Price is reasonable, same as was the nanolight.

Have to say - I'm liking what I'm reading about it.

I'm tempted. Might wait a few months for the inevitable Planet-X price cuts.

Oh right Astra, I should explain...price cuts are when things get CHEAPER! This may or may not apply to carbon chainrings and Faberge eggs.

Word of warning about these frames.

Since they were announced over 6 months ago, they have been advertised as 950 g for a size large, now that they have come to market Planet-X are listing them as 1240g for a size Medium.

I found this out to my dismay only after picking up my long awaited frame from the RDS on Saturday

You can imagine my dismay when I weighed the frame only at 1272g
Then checked the website and see that they have upped the weight by 30% !!!!

I decided to build it up anyway, but started to think it looked a bit big, so got the tape measure out and it turned out I was given an XL and not an L as required. :(

So, this frame has to go back anyway, but I'm really not that interested in the L if it's of a similar weight.

    One seriously unhappy customer.
