Maybe I'm just seeing the negative, but if would appear we're taking a big bckwards step globally in the treatment of LGBT people. Look at the common wealth nations attempts to criminalise homosexuality, in some cases an offense punishable by death.

Doesn't inspire me or leave me with much hope for humanity.

Its like Chomsky says there is no 'far right' anymore the 'far right' has become the centre.

    What a complete tosser.

I wasn't to surprised to see that nonsense in Nigeria, but not from Russia.
I'll be amazed if this doesn't get blasted down.

Well, Chomsky would say that, he's sooo far left! But he's probably correct though! ;) (especially in the context of the USA).

Russia has been slowly embracing totalitarianism again, but this time it's of the fascistic kind rather than Stalinist Communism. Putin is now basically a dictator there. As for the Commonwealth, which nations are you on about? Some of them are just backward, illiberal nations in Africa that just happen to be part of the Commonwealth.

We may have it better in Ireland but still a long way to go I suppose!

Just to say that allout site is neglecting to mention what the bill is and pushing how it theoretically could be abused, with bits missing. Still, it's a pretty crap bill, though hardly surprising. I find it pretty depressing that conservative twats think that censuring the information minors get on sexuality is actually beneficial to them.

Had a chat with my Russian acquaintance in regards to this.

    According to him:
"Yeah, basically there is something like that. The law proposes to make it an offence and to fine people for public actions aimed at propagating homosexuality and such to children."

Furthermore he states that there are suspicions that it's likely merely a political stunt to gain the favour of conservative orthodox and traditional family voters.

any idea where we could get more information then?

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Sorry, I thought I'd linked, here you go, at any rate the second reading of the bill has been postponed* to "redraft", whatever exactly that means.

*there's more on the act itself on the right hand menu in that one too.

Guys, Russian government hate gay-people and if they don't they say that they hate anyway, because in Russia it is normal. They believe, that 10% of gays influence demography and will ruin sacred "marriage" if they will accept such people. It is very-very difficult to be gay in Russia(((

Should I add that in "proposed legislation" propaganda of homosexuality is stated right next to "pedophilia". So the word pedophilia goes straight after homosexuality. Such a legislation already enacted in 2 regions in Russia. Another interesting fact is that the controversial legislation was proposed by authorities of St. Petersburg which is considered is most cultured, arty, European region of Russia which mean that it should be most gay friendly & accepted city in Russia.

I also hear that Neo-Nazi movements are on the rise in Russia (ironically). Russia is going socially backward, not forward.

Are you serious?! He acts all macho. It's certainly the image he tries to portray anyway and it looks like you bought it!

His machoism really derives from his former life in the KGB. I don't think his persona is necessarily an act. If it was, then I must say I was impressed by his performance in that video, lol.

Alexander Litvinenko didnt think it was an act.
Its incredulous that you try to downplay a response of "ask me that question in Russia and I'll cut your balls off" by the leader of a super power who has the power to obliterate us back to the stone ages as accepatable. If that was Iran,Venezuela etc. the entire western media would be outraged and mocking him with interested/opposing governments preparing to invade.
