Short Term Insurance - Penalty Points

    Hi all...

I have been going on my mam's insurance on short term (30 day) periods - (I am a 20 year old male). We are with aviva, and the cost of these 30 day periods is just under a 100euro.. I was recently caught for speeding, sent away the fine and got acknowledgement of the the 2 points on my licence. However, my policy is up and I need to go back on the car insurance again, but I think the amount goes up 100euro for the 30 days, to just under 200..

Does anyone know if this is true? Or has anyone previous experience? Or is there anything anyone would suggest..thanks..

Ask them. You are plucking amounts out of the air. Doubling for 2 points is not the normal scenario.

Sounds like an awfully complicated method of being insured. Is there a specific reason you're only being added to the policy for a month at a time?

If it's cost related, then surely getting the full 12 month cover but paying for it monthly would work out the same or even cheaper?

2 points generally doesn't have any effect on insurance premiums, I think 4 or more and they start to consider them, but as said above you will only know if you ask Aviva, so best thing to do is give them a call.
