Greyhound racing gets its own channel
Mainstream greyhound racing is to be showcased on Freeview television with the launch of Racing Post Greyhound TV next month. RPGTV, which will be shown on channel 231 from December 9, is harnessing SIS’ expertise in filming, infrastructure and uplinks to get the channel up and running.

The channel brings together six of the main greyhound tracks shown daily on SIS’ betting shop channels. The tracks - supplied by William Hill, Ladbrokes and Coral - are Newcastle, Sunderland, Monmore, Crayford, Romford and Hove. Coverage will be on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings from 19.30–22.45 offering top quality greyhound racing.

Kevan Moretti, Executive Producer, Racing Post TV said: “This is a substantial step further forward for the greyhound industry. We are delighted to partner with SIS who have worked with us all the way to find the best technical solution for the distribution of pictures from the tracks. The use of fibre-optic distribution propels the technical solution to the leading edge in terms of technology and cost effectiveness. We anticipate growing interest in the syndication of the programme for other channels and on the internet we shall be working together closely with SIS to promote the programme both domestically and overseas.”

SIS will also supply all race-day information with production supplied by Frontrunner Productions from Encompass Digital Media’s London Studio.

Phil Siers, Managing Director, SIS LBO Division, said: “I am delighted SIS is partnering in Racing Post Greyhound TV. SIS will deliver the new Freeview channel 231 via its new fibre network and will be responsible for exclusive syndication of the content to market. In addition a full SIS data feed will be available to support betting.”

It also means SIS can take another step in providing tailored video for digital bookmakers. Siers added: “For some time, we have been looking to extend our services in the egaming space.

“Greyhounds are proven betting content generating high levels of turnover and this is another product we add to our ever increasing portfolio for the egaming market. We look forward to a successful and fruitful partnership with the Racing Post and GTV Ltd.”

As the article mentions Freeview a few times, this presumably means it will not be on Freesat/Sky. Unless they mean satellite yet use the Freeview brandname?

For Sports fans (not me) - there's Boxing channel that's FTA on 28 degrees:
BoxNation broadcasts Free to Air from 2000-2200 UK time on the Eurobird 1 satellite at 28.5 degrees east is now on Sky EPG Number 456, the channel's Frequency is 11.585 H, Symbol Rate 27.500 FEC 2/3

It's definitely free to air at the moment - it popped up my my old FTA receiver. Note it's only on 8 to 10 p.m. - and it may well go encrypted at some time in the future.
Also - my Freesat receiver (Goodmans) thinks it's encrypted and won't display it.
