Spotted this in my twitter feed. Disgraceful. Constantly getting things thrown at him in Turkey.

Ah an oul handshake will settle this.

Thats a nice Rivaldo move he pulls there at the start, plastic bottle hits him in the side and he holds his head :)

    "Constantly"?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,346 ✭✭✭✭homerjay2005

i think he is making a bit of a meal of it alright, its halarious how it only seems to be him getting hit when the others beside him are grand. maybe he has flees or somthing :)

what are the reasons for this, is this cos of where he is from (racial), the fact that he cant be a bit of a wum sometimes or the fact that he is playing in turkey where they are a bit mad? i think its probably a mixture of all 3.

is there another racial storm brewing here or just people saying as he is coloured, that anything thrown at him is racial?

I cant understand what the **** is wrong with people.

None of this matters one bit.

Its just not acceptable to throw **** at people like that. I dont get why people get it in their heads that cause they are at a footie game they can act like complete *****

Is there a racist element here such that you bring Blatters comment in to it?

Just assuming that theres a racist element because EE is black is of itself a bit racist. It could be because he is the highest profile player on the opposition team and is also quite the wind-up merchant.
(*not defending throwing things at players*)

Not Eboue! He's so harmless, the only thing I'd throw at him are my best wishes :(

The man is a hero, simply because of this moment from the last World Cup.

Love the music, definably adds an "awwh" element.

Terrible stuff, but idiots are in all walks of life unfortunately.

What evidence do you all have that Eboue is a wind up merchant? Certainly in his time with Arsenal he went down softly more than his fair share but that's not winding up either - he's no Joey Barton.

Regardless, even being the highest profile player on the team or for whatever reason, its wrong. I can imagine your reactions would probably be different if it happened to Robbie Keane in Talinn for example. Or worse again, Leon Best.

Agree with you Archi/Tom/Cam/Whatever-name-takes-your-fancy - he seems to be a bang on guy.

That's horrible. Eboue seems like a nice bloke too, such a shame. I often wonder why black players go to play in these leagues i.e Turkey, Russia etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,551 ✭✭✭✭Oat23

I definitely think it's racially motivated. But even if it is not it's completely unacceptable what those fans were doing. You can see at 35 seconds it changes to another clip later in the match, it happened more than once in the game. Looks like he got hit with a lighter or something.

Melo and Baros also play with him, so I don't see why they would do it because he is the most high profile player. Also the WUM thing doesn't really make sense because he doesn't even speak Turkish..And believe it or not, the EPL isn't very popular in Turkey so they wouldn't know what he was at in England(I don't even know tbh)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,502 ✭✭✭Fuzzy_Dunlop

That's disgraceful behaviour from the fans. Eboue is a great guy (apart from the odd theatrics on the pitch)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,300 ✭✭✭✭razorblunt

    Arsenal fans touring Turkey then?

Because they cant resist the money.

are they really doing it cos he's black or cos he's rubbish. This needs to be solved before we move on :o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,560 ✭✭✭✭dsmythy

He was getting it because of his histrionics on the pitch. When bottles hit him on the shoulder he's holding his face, even in non-footballing situations he's acting. Still wrong for this to be happening at a football match. The coverage it's getting will mean the Turkish FA won't be able to ignore it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,205 ✭✭✭Gringo180

Animals those turkish football fans are.

More likely to get racially abused in Spain or Italy than in the Turkish league.

in all seriousness, that's just not on, you wouldn't know what could be thrown next. I think I would have left the pitch

it was galatasary vs besikats, huge rivals, the fans hate each other.
throw in the racist element in besikatas support, and theres your answer

    don't blame it on henry
    don't blame it on clichy
don't blame it on the referee
    blame it on eboue

I'd put it more down to the rivalry between Galatasaray and Besiktas and Eboue's vulnerability to going down easily rather than the fact that he's black. Not that it condones it, it's a disgrace no matter who is getting stuff thrown at them, but I'd hope anyway that it wasn't racially motivated.

So he was getting it because of his histrionics, but then you mention histrionics like "When bottles hit him on the shoulder, he's holding his face". I think this kinda contradicts itself. He is reacting hysterically to being hit by a bottle, which was thrown because of his histrionics...?

I can't stand the guy, but I wouldn't complain about him putting his hands over his face after being hit by a bottle. He could just as easily be protecting himself.

Constantly in the one match with slow-mo replays. What proof is there that it is rascist and not just hooliganism?

really? cant recall too many players being abused by crowds in england in recent years. when was the last race storm before the current terry/suarez incidents, both of which have yet to be proven (and wont be either IMO) as racism?

the majority of the problems with racism in the sport, lies outside if the uk.

Songs about Adebayors parents washing elephants or songs about Sol Campbell being lynched. I think Mido was racially abused a few times...

That's terrible, I'd happily take him back at Arsena...maybe not as a player though, but he doesn't deserve to be treated like that!

Always liked him as a player. Why is it necessarily racially motivated though? Plenty of white players get things chucked at them....coins, phones etc

It wasn't racist, in Turkey throwing coins and bottle is a way of showing affection.

    Or something.

Sure can Eboue even prove it was racist?

Isn't throwing stuff at people a way of welcoming in that particular area of Turkey?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,068 ✭✭✭Bodhisopha

    Poor Eboue :(

Probably misses the racist boos he used to receive at every ground in England. The grass isn't always greener...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,661 ✭✭✭Fuhrer

Didnt Spurs fans used to chant "Youre father washes elephants" at Adebayor?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,181 ✭✭✭Iang87

it was definitely racist cos he's black you see.

Sure did ye not see beckham and donovan get stuff thrown at them in the 94th minute by the opposition fans while trying to take a corner. You see thats racist cos their black too ............ wait am hmmmmmmmmm ....... same incident, different colour victim, wait what do i do now i cant blame racism for people just being clowns

Still not sure why this is a racism debate.

The Turkish football fans, bless their little cotton socks, are a committed equal opportunities set of fans and will cheerfully shower you with bottles, coins, flares and cans regardless of your race, colour or origin.

in fairness to him that happened outside the UK. Also that is part of the terry/suarez affair. So he is kinda right
