Good Rain Proof Jacket

Wiggle's own brand jackets are dhb. I bought a dhb Event a couple of years ago (on blorg's recommendation) and it is excellent. They don't seem to do the Event fabric any more. They do have other 'waterproof' jackets for around the €68 mark that are worth looking at. IMO you are better going for a multi-layer as they all let in water at some stage and the priority is to keep your core warm rather than dry (which is impossible as moisture is coming at the jacket from inside and out).

    Great jacket in my opinion...

I previously had a Santini rain jacket (not sure of the exact type) but it was useless in comparison to the Pocket Rocket..

    Hi guys

I didn't want to start a new thread so thought I'd ask here.

I'm looking for recommendations for a new cycling jacket too. I'd like a bright one - doesn't have to be hi-viz but must have good reflective strips.

I saw the Altura Night Vision Evo in Cycle Surgery in Dundrum today and liked the look of it. However, I'm worried that it might be too heavy and not very breathable.

I'd like the jacket to be waterproof but if that means boiling in the bag I'd be happy with just a windproof one that might be showerproof.

    Thanks

I have had a couple of Night Visions. I think they are fine for the money. They are largely waterproof but more suited to colder weather rather than summer showers.I have had problems with the zips. Most people on here will tell you the same. The one I have now is on its 2nd zip..Also make sure you have mudguards. i manged to wash the colour out of mine in about 9 months while cycling without mudguards..

    Thanks.

I have mudguards so hopefully won't be a problem. I figure with all the reflective strips on it the red would be an alright option anyway.

Sounds like it would be too hot in summer then? Is there anything like it that could be worn year round without roasting in it?!

Just bought an Altura Night Vision windproof second hand for 8 euro today. Haven't had a real good go of it yet, but loving the feel and fit of it already. Would consider it well worth 70 bob or more new.

Cool, thanks. Didn't realise there was a separate windproof version. Might have a look for that then!

Rather expensive. Still, I suppose it's another option for people with money (the ratio of that to sense is in the eye of the beholder).

Cotton is nature’s most breathable fabric

    Don't think that's true.

This is subjective. All jackets that are breathable are going to be somewhat limited in waterproofness. I have a Pearl Izumi jacket (PRO) and it's great for my 6km commute in all but the real downpoors.
The water will get through eventually so it depends on how long you're on the bike. For the real heavy rain I have a rainjacket from Dunnes Stores (E10,-) to help me out. It's not breathable, not even a cycle jacket, but it does keep me dry.
I cycle every day, rain or shine, once or twice per year it's one of those days you wouldn't send your dog out in.
Trying to get one jacket for all the sorts of rain in Ireland is not going to work.

Where can I order a jacket made from human skin? Surely that has to be both breathable and waterproof.

It doesn't breath for ****e, otherwise I'd be farting out of my skin.

Won't hold out heavy rain and its a bit warm. Best suited to winter. its generally windproof which is why I still use it. Zips on mine are broken, got the main zip replaced once so far. Mine has washed ok. Probably lost some water resistance each time though.

I had a look on altura site and can't see a windproof night vision. has it been discontinued? i can only see the waterproof evo.

DHB make great waterproof jackets. I have a winter one which is a complete animal (kept me warm and dry in the snow last year) and a summer one which is just as good, but not quite as warm. Though I will admit a little annoyance at the winter one - I wore it playin golf 2 weeks ago in torrential rain, put my iphone in the back zip-up pocket and it wasn't dry an hour later. Though I'll admit that the pocket may have been wet before I put the phone in it.

Problem with DHB is that they change their lines every year, so I can't tell you which ones I have. But you can't really go wrong with any of them.
