Changing course

    Hi all,

I'm currently in my 2nd year doing I.T. But I'm seriously considering changing course. The course just isn't for me. I find myself dreading class with a passion rather then willing to learn and be interested in it.

I'm tempted to do psychology in college. Does anyone have any experience with switching courses? How did you go about it? I'd be switching at the end of the year if I was to do anything. At least then I would have 2 years I.T on my CV which isn't to bad to have.

    Regards,

    Eoin.

Eoin if you're in 2 years of IT, if u pass your second year you should be able to leave with a Higher Cert

Secondly, do you wish to do another course in ITB or one in a different college?

Since you said you want to do psychology, I assume you want to go elsewhere (afaik ITB does not do a psychology course), in that case you will have to apply through the CAO the same as you did when you applied for the cource at ITB (assuming you're not a mature student etc), so essentially you'll be starting all over again as if you've just finished your leaving cert.

If you wish to change courses within ITB, I'd suggest contacting the admissions office in A block to see if it is possible, or the StudntInformationDesk (sid@itb.ie) for further info and advice.

I don't mind going to a different college or staying in ITB. I'm a big fan of the college, I really enjoy it. I'm thinking of booking an appointment with the career counsellor to see where I can go from there, how to apply through CAO etc etc.

    Don't forget the cost factor,
You'll have to pay for the first two years of another course if you choose to do one and any years after that will be free.

State only pays for one shot ;)
After sticking it out for this long already and if you ain't failing any subjects this semester already then I'd stick it out for the cert at end of year. If things aren't going so well don't waste your time, get out and find what you like.

If you do like itb, there's always social care or early childhood education if the psychological/education side of things is more you thing. However for pure psychology you'll need to go to a different college.

My brother went from itb to dcu after completing third year, to do his honours, even that had an element of messing about to it from both colleges. So yeah, get on it as soon as you can just so you know what's involved.
