    Not particularly surprising is it, most of the top 10 jobs are jobs involving helping people in society, a significant role of the clergy.

    Makes sense to me. You do something you love doing - and you get paid for it too! :)

    No it's not surprising that helping others is it's own reward in many ways.. Actually it reminds me of a prayer attributed to St. Francis - one of my favourite prayers and indeed hymns. If I may..

    Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.

    Where there is hatred, let me sow love.

    Where there is injury, pardon.

    Where there is doubt, faith.

    Where there is despair, hope.

    Where there is darkness, light.

    Where there is sadness, joy.

    O Divine Master,

    grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled, as to console;

    to be understood, as to understand;

    to be loved, as to love.

    For it is in giving that we receive.

    It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,

    and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.

    Amen.

    Fr Ted;
    It's fabulous being a priest - think of all that comfort you bring to the sick and dying. They love it, they can't get enough of it!

    Helping and giving hope to people is surely one of the noblest of callings.

    Any wonder then why the happiness index is high amongst the clergy.

    A more interesting theme would be if the clergy were surveyed to see if increased materialism amongst them tipped off a lowering of the happiness index.

    Might cause a few surprises.
