Don't know the story about Tulsk, but I do know that Christy worked nearby as a bank official in Ballyhaunis in the '70's. There was a big nationwide bank strike at the time and that's when Christy left the bank and tried his luck elsewhere, thank god.

Was not in Ballyhappiness in the 70's as He left Bank in 1966 during that Bank Strike as any 21 year old with any sense would do. When the strike of the 70's came around he was well gone

Ok, so it was in the 60's and not the 70's. You wouldn't by any chance know if was it before or after dinner, or did he just not come in that day? ;)

He played a gig down there and he nearly got the crap kicked outta of him.I think something similar happened in Mountbellew.

I think it happened around 1981, either way he played a gig there, a fight started, lots of pushing and shoving, a few tables got knocked over and I think one of his amps got damaged. There was no "riot", I don't think the Guards even showed up. My neighbour was at it, she ended up walking home as some of the lads were outside looking for afters.

Either way, when the story went around about the fight, and people were saying how disgraceful it was, everybody denied being there, but since Christy immortalised it in song there were more people at it than were in the GPO in Easter 1916 .
