Hello im 15 years old and recently got my training licence for my fathers lanber :). I will be 16 in march and i am looking at importing a shotgun from the uk when i turn 16. What im wondering is how would i do this. I was looking at www.guntrader.co.uk and seen a few guns i like. What i was thinking was when i turn 16 going over and taking a look at a few and getting one however im wondering how i would import it back to ireland.
    Thanks

I think the best way for you to do this would be to go through a RFD. A dealer down my way will import guns for lads he must get something from it but it is a fairly minimal charge. Have a chat with a local RFD as he will most likely no the in's and out's of it.

+1 on that. If you really wanted to import from the UK yourself, you need to do the following:

Buy your gun, get serial number and details of seller.
Apply for your licence for that gun here using the details above.
When you get your licence, apply for your European Firearms Pass (free) and apply to the Dept. Of Justice for an import licence (also free).
When you get your EFP apply for a visitors permit for the UK (you'll need a sponsor, but the seller would prob do this)
When you get the visitors permit you can collect the gun yourself and have all the bother of trying to fly it back (in specialist luggage) or taking the ferry.
Same procedure for the North but without the ferry/flight.
Might be easier so to get an RFD to import. Though there are plenty of deals to be had here, it's a buyers market.

You can get it RFD'd to the north for about £25. often they will do it for free as part of the gun price.
The RFD up here will charge another £30 for handling paperwork.
You get your licence as normal then apply for import from DOJ, (very fast and easy).
Get a visitors permit, go see the giant's causweway or go to tesco to stock up on beer and take the gun home with you...

I bought a gun recently for England. They shipped it for free and my RFD didnt charge me anything on this side.

For the sake of an extra 60 quid it's worth your while to get an Irish RFD take in in through the north. I did this with my last gun and it was no different to buying a gun in the dealers.

Get the serial numbers before the gun is shipped, get the Irish RFD to do you a bill of sale and apply for the license while the gun is in transit.
