Automatic Mondeo revs high for no reason

I'm currently driving a '04 2 litre automatic Mondeo. I'd never driven an automatic until I started driving this so my knowledge of them is minimal.

Basically, if I'm stopped at lights, and I take off, the car revs go to 2 (which I think is normal) and then drop down to normal, and as I accelerate they go back up to 2 but then shoot up to over 3 for no reason (the car's speed doesn't change). It seems like it happens when I am accelerating in 2nd gear (so to speak). When I get up to usual speed of 80-100 km/h the car drives as normal. So i'm wondering if it is a big problem?

If you stab the accelerator pedal, it'll kick down a gear, could it be this?

    hate the bloody thing!

    (Thats why I drive a 2.0TDI Manual Passat:D)

This morning when I was leaving for work, I reversed out of the space, put it into drive and put my foot on the accelerator but the car wouldn't budge. I had to push my foot down hard to make the car move and eventually it moved off. For the first 5 mins or so of me driving then the revs would go very high, but the car wouldn't accelerate accordingly. It was only after driving for awhile, and at a higher speed that it seemed to be perfectly normal. But again, once I came to lights and took off, on the 2nd "gearshift" the revs would go crazy before eventually settling back down.

    Any ideas??

You need a mechanic. Don't drive any more.

Has the transmission fluid or filter ever been changed?
