Metacritic v MW3

I just read this article which i found interesting about how gamers are rating MW3 and how metacritic can adversly affect a games stock. IGN are major cod fanboys and this is one of the many articles they have published on MW3 ratings, but what i found interesting about this is that its a sign of how people feel about current FPS and the COD franchise in particular.

I know a lot of you here have enjoyed the game and i have played offline for a couple of hours and found it enjoyable, certainly wouldn't rate it low. And obviously its the professional awards and ratings that matter most for games but from this article the public have shown by rating MW3 with a 0 that they are disappointed by the franchise, that a copy and past game with a paint job isn't going to cut it anymore and will this affect the COD franchise in the future?
The user score, out of a possible ten points, for Modern Warfare 3 at the time of writing is 3.2 on Xbox 360, 2.8 on PS3 and 2.0 on PC. The critical averages (out of 100) for the game are 89, 88 and 81 respectively"

Has the FPS genre come to a breaking point with the lack of innovation, with the catering for casual fans having an impact on gameplay, where can the franchise go from here in the future to regain popularity amongst the masses.
I thought this would be an interesting discussion,
    Here is the article:

It would have been nice for a bit more "new" in MW3, but it's not a 3.2 game, it's a really good game, but there is a concerted effort by haters and by BF fans to fcuk it over. It was rated even lower than that before it even came out, which is just crazy.

    No,just COD.
Of course people are going to be pissed off with a game thats been basically unchanged except for a few new kill streaks or perks(which have actually made the series worse)in its last 3 incarnations from infinity ward.

The bar is raised with the likes of Battlefield 3 and Gears of War 3 for me anyway, you can't just keep bringing out the same game each year or every second year,if you only have COD4 there's not much incentive to move on to a later release.

I will never buy another COD game on the current generation of consoles as I don't think they can get much more out of the actual hardware and they won't change what's been selling millions of copies each year.

I love COD, so its hard to say it, but MW3 is very disappointing. It's nowhere near as pretty as MW2, character movements are more sluggish and the sounds are terrible.

People don't seem to realize that the Infinity ward that made COD4 and MW2 are no longer in existence. Activision owns the rights to the name. I don't think the low scores are due to the lack of innovation though. The multiplayer is pretty poor compared to the last few games, I feel the skill element has been taken out with the crappy spawns and obstacle course maps.

I get annoyed when I hear that its just MW2.5, because to me it't nowhere near as technically good as MW2.

All that said, the campaign is excellent and I'd give it a 9/10. I just cant stand the multiplayer though. If this is what future COD is gonna be like I wont be playing it anymore (prays that people will still be playing COD4 and MW2 in 2yrs time)

This. Never let a review decide whether I'm going to buy a MP based game either as the reviews are usually awful and are based on a really small amount of playtime which is silly to judge MP on.

I'll only pay attention to the critical reviews on sites like that, too many of the 0/10 reviews are just people with too much time on their hands. Plus there is the issue of people making up reviews just to skew the results (just look at Jurassic Park).

Im 100% sure the only reason the rating is that low is because of 4chan and number of other forums doing their little mass hate review campaign, MW3 isn't the first to be screwed by them. Think it was portal 2 that got an awful hammering aswel, not sure how they fixed it but at one stage the PC user review section was at 5.1 ! Despite it being considered by many as a "Masterpiece". Only reason they did it then was because of the games length and it had some day one DLC (Cosmetic DLC, such as hats or something).

So yeah... i wouldn't pay much attention to user scores on metacritic.

I didn't even realize there was a new Call Of Duty game released. I thought MW2 just got a expensive map pack.

    16 map map-pack with
    2 new game modes
    a few new guns
    theatre mode
    better private games
loads of new spec ops missions
    survival mode
and a brand new Single Player.

    At least nobody's exagerrating though.

Its due to This Twitter post a MW3 developer made actually:
"I don't usually do this but, if u like MW3 go 2 Metacritic.com & help our user score," Schofield said in his Tweet. "It's suspiciously low. Be honest but help if u agree."

That sounds cool. I really hadn't a clue a new one was out. I have been so busy lately actually driving Jets, Apaches and Tanks on Battlefield 3.

That sounds really really cool, pity this is the cod forum, where people aren't sad enough to comment on a playing a game that they feel is better despite having zero connections to the game and despite the fact that everyone on this forum could play BF3 if they were so inclined. If I wanted BF, I'd buy BF. Your childish comments are if anything going to make people less likely to buy the game as its showing the BF community to be even more immature than the cod one, if thats even possible.

    tl;dr - reported.

Hi Royal Irish, long time no see. Hope things are well.

We created a new charter recently, here's a random rule I just picked out of the charter for the heck of it -
If people want to come in here and get off on starting flame wars and the like, expect an infraction at the very least.

Hmm... your first couple of posts in a long, long time is to start a flame war, pushing you're little agenda and fully being aware of what you are doing. Given your posting history that's a given that last part.

So with that said, have a nice break and have a nice day too :)

    Thread back on topic

    ____

edit, general comment - Points and arguments can be made without the need for such pathetic, petty comments like above. If you have previous for such comments, bans will be extensive if we mods feel you add nothing to the COD forum besides shit stirring. I don't mind people referencing Battlefield but if continually plugging BF and bashing COD,a line will be drawn. Very small minded individuals need to resort to that type of thing.

Cod is just a victim of its own success.I think people in general always try and stay with what they're familiar with. MW3 multiplayer for me, is a bit tougher than Black Ops.Its after taking me at least a week to get into the flow of it and start having more decent games than playing like ****e. Was pleasantly surprised to play a few new maps last night in the smaller lobbies like deathmatch and headquarters.I think alot of people are finding it a bit trickier cause imo the initial guns feel under powered and until you start unlocking the kick and range stuff, you won't get as many kills with it. I found this very frustrating to begin with but after getting used to the system ,I really enjoy it now.It adds a different layer to the game and hopefully will add longevity to it. I think once all the glitches and connection issues are ironed out its gonna be a very good title.I guarantee by the time the next COD comes out and people are after getting familiar with MW3 and are used to the maps, there'll be a load of people complaining about how MW3 was the best in the series and the new one is crap. Wish people would give games a bit of a chance, cause like music , sometimes the ones that don't appeal to you initially , if given the chance can show that they are multilayered and longlasting.
