Does anyone know how I can use my NUIG account to access papers on journal websites like nature.com? I can't pay $200 to subscribe to sites like these but can't find the papers anywhere else. I tried using Athens and looked for details for the Athens administrator for NUIG and it's blank... Even GMIT has an Athens administrator!

Hah, seriously though any ideas people?
    Thanks.

If you're online on a computer suite on campus, you should automatically have access to most journals - seems to work for me, anyway. The other way of doing it is logging into your library account and then searching for the journals through the library website. Usually when you're redirected to the website of the journal it will say "Access through NUI Galway" or something like that, but I've found that it's not always reliable.

Here's what you're looking for, you just need to log into your NUIG account and you will be able to search for Nature journals via their title:

A new and easier way is to use a great bit of new software called ReadCube http://www.readcube.com/ its awesome.

Install it, go to preferences, then institutional affiliation and select NUIG from the drop down box.

One that's done go to search and you can search via pubmed or google scholar from within readcube, the first time you use it it will redirect you to an NUIG page where you put in your NUIG student number and password and your done. It'll never ask you for login details again.

You should now be able to access all scientific journals NUIG has subscriptions for at home. But when you're in college for some reason it won't work if you have you computer connected to the NUIG network with an ethernet cable, but its fine on wireless.

You can also import all your other PDF's from you computer and allow readcube to manage them, it great for citations, finding new papers in your area etc.
