I read this today and was surprised to see the embattled CEO of a struggling airline appointed to one of the many tourism quangos.

    Anyone else surprised by this?

I am sort of expecting AL to go bust to be bought out under his stewardship.

I can see why no one has bothered replying to you...
You don't want the guy in charge of an airline which is one of europes most cash rich, made a profit last year, will make a profit this year (2 of the toughest years for aviation) with Europes biggest LOW cost operator as a competitor involved in trying to get more tourists into this country ?

Yeah let's give it to some failed politician instead.....

I would have thought the topic is a bit too advanced. ;)

In the last two years Aer Lingus has had more threats of industrial action than any other airline in the world. They are making a profit because their cost base is being cut quicker than they're losing customers.

I'd sooner see the position on the board of a quango go unfilled, or be made voluntary.
