Mechanic to diagnose a misfire/rough idle around Maynooth

    Hi everyone,

My 99 Toyota vitz 1.0 auto(55K miles on odometer) is hunting at idle(shaking car excessively but doesn't stall) and I also feel slight misfire when I rev up engine. It is quite annoying in stop start traffic.

I know that usual suspects are air flow meter, ICV, leads, coilpacks and spark plugs. But I also have quite rusty exhaust manifold that leaks exhaust fumes.

At low revs with load(while starting to accelerate from standstill) there is excessive exhaust noise but it goes away with increasing revs

Spark Plugs are changed 10k miles ago. Oil/Oil Filter/Air filter changed 2k miles ago. No Power Loss or any other problem that I can notice other than issue above on stop start traffic.

As there are a lot of possibility here, I would like to find a mechanic who will be eager to diagnose this issue to pinpoint faulty part without throwing parts into car.

Today I was in atlas tyres in drumcondra targeting NissanDoctor:D for a diagnosis but he was busy with another car and one of their other mechanic tried to read error codes via obd2 port and told me that their readers can't connect ecu so I should go to Toyota dealer straight forward. I asked about checking usual suspects and I am told same sentence above again and again until I gave up.

I was not so surprised as it is not first time that I am told to go away when I asked mechanics something non-standard(standard = full/oil service, timing belt change, brake pad/discs change. tyre change, balance, tracking). Maybe I don't know how to ask:)

Anyway I am ready to pay a mechanic to diagnose problem in my car without ecu fault reading as it may not work and check engine light is already off on the dash. Preferably around Maynooth/Dunboyne Area

    Any recommendation ?

    Thanks !

Tomek is a Polish pal who is operating around Kilcock/Moyglare. Havent heard from him in a year but he's a smart lad with cars. He was on 0857849818. Maybe just time for a new set of plugs again.

Thanks. I'll check him if he is still around.

I think I'll be having a word with the lads in work on Monday:mad:
When I came back from a getting a part for another car you were gone. I wasn't told that anything had been tried and you were told that:mad::mad:

    PM sent.

Thanks for clarification NissanDoc. Pm sent. I know you well enough from your posts that you target/achieve better quality of service.

I just thought you told them to have a look at car not to make me wait longer and I am exposed to standard procedure for a non-standard request. :)

Just wanted to update this post with result.

NissanDoctor diagnosed and sorted misfire issue today for a reasonable cost.

Looks like issue was related to throttle body.

Thanks to him for good service.
