got me test next week,Only just failed my last one.

can they mark you down for progresss for not moving off quickly enough when your parked.Im saying this becasue I got marked twice for it last time, aswell as a green one.my new instuctor doesnt know why either.

I do my 6 check looks, very concious effort to look at each step rather than just turning my head etc. Can the tester get pd off thinking your taking the mick?I stress when parked, oviously not in traffic yeild signs etc.

and can ya get marked for doing your turn about too slowly?as I would stop and do my 6 looks at each point aswell.

Under what category did you get these marks against you? Progress? How do you know you got them when moving off from parked?

I don't think the tester would mark you for progress for not being quick with your observation, unless you are taking an unusually long time. While I'm not saying to rush observations by any means, it is important to be efficient at observing - by this I mean not taking longer than you need to to gather information from observational checks. Don't think solely of what you think the tester will want to see, but rather what is practical for everyday driving - remember you are learning to drive for the rest of your life, not just for your test!
It helps if you think about what you are looking for at each stage of your observation - eg when checking your left blindspot you might be looking for pedestrians who might step off the path, while in your right wing mirror you'll be checking for approaching cars and bikes.
If you take too long observing, situations can change fairly quickly - for example, if you observe a car approaching in your centre mirror, when you get to your right blindspot that car might have already reached you, meaning its important to know what's behind that car - situations change and develop all the time. Also consider cases such as changing lanes where effective and efficient observatioare are important - you don't want to be staring at your right blindspot for 3 seconds while travelling at 100km/h.

However, you are absolutely right - it's better to be safe than sorry, so make sure you are not rushing observation for the sake of progress, and make sure it's safe to go before you actually go.

If your instructor says what you are doing for observation is fine, then that's the advice to be following. I personally think it's more likely that you might have gotten the progress marks for taking too long to move off after doing your all-round observation, or perhaps not moving off when a suitable gap appeared.

Would have been under Progress turning right or left or at cross junctions

    From the RSA Guidelines
    Examples of ‘Progress’ faults include:
    (d) Where an applicant does not avail of an acceptable gap in traffic to proceed.

There are basicly two ways of getting a mark for progress moving off. The first is if you take excessively long to get ready, ie. a few seconds looking at each individual point or 30 / 40 seconds in total getting ready. The second is that when you move off you don't accelerate enough and build your speed too slowly.

You have to realise, this is meant to be a test of how you drive under normal conditions. Obviously if everyone was to take their sweet time moving off or doing maneuvers then things would be much worse off on the roads.
