HP Pavilion power problem. Advice?

    Hi,

I bought a HP Pavilion Dv7 in early 2008. It has worked like a dream up to now. But in the last couple of weeks I have had some problems with the laptop getting power.

When the laptop is plugged in it randomly loses its mains connection and switches to battery power. It will randomly re-connect at any time. Sometimes the connection is gone for a few seconds, and sometimes it's hours. Manipulating the flex and checking all the connections does nothing. It just "happens".

I assume the problem is either with the power cable, or the connection on the laptop. Has anyone else ever come across this type of problem before? Maybe you could steer me in the right direction?

Even if I plugged in a new cable I would have to wait hours, maybe days, before I could be sure that was the problem. It is so erratic.

I had a similar problem with my dv6 recently, except that it was much more frequent than yours sounds. I replaced the charger and it works fine now, so my problem was definitely with the charger.

Thanks for that. I am hoping it's a cable problem instead of an internal problem. I'll pick up a replacement tomorrow and see how it goes.

    Cheers.

Having the same issue with my HP, any recommendations for purchasing a new, cheap, charger?

I've ordered from laptopchargers.ie in the past, delivery is pretty quick. Chargers from them aren't HP branded, they're generic ones and the quality wouldn't be great, but they're ok.

EDIT: just don't expect them to last anywhere near as long as the one that came with it.

bought mine in sept 2008 and had the same problems. Got a new charger and it was fine. Now though the connection from charger to laptop is causing problems. The whole thing gets really heated too even after I cleaned the fan. Time for a new laptop I think.
