This was up on the on the bbc website, an article about Putin being booed at a martial arts contest/sporting event, I just found it interesting how the bbc described it.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-15818517
Russia PM Vladimir Putin 'booed' at martial arts fight
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has been booed at a martial arts contest in Moscow in an apparent show of public protest.

Mr Putin stepped into the ring at the end of a fight on Sunday between Russian fighter Fedor Emelianenko and his American opponent, Jeff Monson. As he started to speak, the audience began booing and hissing, in scenes broadcast live on Russian TV. Mr Putin's supporters later claimed the audience was jeering Mr Monson. The director of the Olimpisky stadium which hosted the fight, Mikhail Moskalyov, told local media that the audience was reacting as the American fighter left the ring.

    End of an era?
However, the Kremlin's critics say the outburst was in fact a sign of Mr Putin's declining popularity, reports the BBC's Steve Rosenberg in Moscow.
Prominent activist and blogger Alexei Navalny said on Twitter that the incident heralded "the end of an era". The main news show on Russia's Channel One later tightly edited the speech, showing only the one phrase that provoked a cheer from the crowd, the AFP news agency reports. However, the uncensored broadcast has been uploaded to YouTube, where on Monday it had been viewed more than 500,000 times. Mr Putin is planning to return to the presidency in elections to be held next March. Although his approval ratings are still high, at 61%, that figure has fallen by 16% from last year.

+1 . It was good to see him break his losing streak but it was quite boring. It wasn't really Fedor's fault it was just frustrating to watch Monson constantly try to take it to the ground and fail every time. He seemed quite timid also when going for takedowns.

I've always like Jeff Monson, I think he's a great fighter, just not a top 10 hw. I think he said on a video he's going to strikeforce to fight LHW but maybe I misheard of that plans is going / not going ahead.

Fedor fought a really good fight, a style of fight he probably would have beaten Werdum with, and possible Hendo (he didn't rush anyone once he knocked them down).

I think there are plenty of interesting fights for fedor outside the ufc but i hope he gets in there. who wouldn't pay to see fedor and crocop once more

No way would I want to see Cro cop v Fedor at this stage. Cro Cop has to hang em up before people start comparing him to Ken Shamrock. I love the guy but its sad watching him now.

He retired after his last fight

So what next for Fedor? Does he just spend his days fighting former champs, does he retire and focus on M1, does he move down weight? I read that Crocop is going to fight in an event he's setting up in Croatia with a very special guest. You never know.

Rumour is he's going to be fighting Satoshi Ishii at Dream's New Year event

    http://mmajunkie.com/news/26222/fedor-emelianenko-shinya-aoki-likely-for-dream-new-year-2011.mma

I must set up a thread for that event someday soon, the card is looking like it should be fun.

    This.

His handlers have always been more interested in making money from him and his aura rather than proving he's the best. Now they'll happily have him fight on PPVs against the likes of Ricco Rodriguez and rake in what money they have left to make from him.

Monson broke his leg checking fedor's kicks in the second round.

I think people come down hard on Fedor because of his long undefeated streak. If you look at Dan Henderson, he's older than Fedor and after a post pride dip in his career he's now (arguably) doing better than ever so to say Fedor should retire or his best days are behind him seems a bit like good old Irish begrudgery in my opinion.

You were making half decent points until you tacked on this rubbish! This makes no sense whatsoever!
