Over the past year and a half I have seen numerous people on boards wondering about scrap car batteries and their value, so I thought I would shed light on this for those who are interested.

I got rid of this lot this morning:

There was about 40 batteries there, at between 15kg and 30kg each

Total weight was 765kg, (we weighed them ourselves before hand) and we got about €7 a battery for them.

We brought them to National Recycling on Station Road in Clondalkin.

And I'm sure someone will know where you could get more than that for them

Scrap batteried were making €650 a ton up until about two months ago, when the price fell to c.a €360 a ton. The best payers for batteries are in Portlaoise, go figure where yourselves:P. For larger consigners, they will send a lorry to collect at those prices.
In theory(and by law..)you need a waste transit licence to transport this as cargo, and you should also receive consignment/safe disposal paperwork from the Waste processor to ensure compliance for you as the consignee. There's money in batteries...

Sold some scrap to Wilton Waste in Cavan.. The driver took three tractor batteries to one side and said he'd check them in seperate... got €36 for them, and €30 for an old copper cylinder..
